Road to bard

What should i pick on the road to bard. What would be my starting job, and then what would be the best job to pick at 18 before i become a bard?

Level Black/Red Mage to 18 -> Change to White mage with old job as sub -> Level 30 change to bard with White Mage as sub.

- Start job as a WHM
- Get to lvl 18, do sub-job quest
- Lvl BLM to 15, with WHM as sub (duh)
- Swap back to WHM with BLM as sub, lvl to 30
- Do the super easy unlocking BRD quest
- Play BRD with WHM sub
- Have fun

On a side note, this is very common knowledge. Take some time and scan though the bard forum here and you should find everything you need to know.

1 more question before i finnaly become a bard.. Are they fun to play as, or will they get boaring after like level 10...

to me the most boring part was lvling to 10.after that when i got into pt`s ive been having the most fun.

Im going either BRD, or PLD.
I wanna be wanted.. I like casters/bards (i was a bard in EQ), and i like being a tank, so its a hard decision.. I heard the perfect group is a whm, pld, brd, 2 other meeles, and another caster. I dont like only casting, so its either Pld or Bard.

even DRGS sounded good, but i heard that cant get groups that well, and have trouble even comparing to DRK.

I sort of cheated when I was working up to become a bard. I played whm to 18, and then switched to levelling up blm. I hated playing blm enough that I stopped levelling it up at around level 8 and just went whm to 30 to unlock bard.

Soloing 1 to 10 as a bard went by *much* quicker than 1 to 10 did as a whm with no sub. After that it's been smooth sailing and a ton of fun.

i'm confused...

i went to 15war, 15rdm, 15whm, then 15thf/war to thf30 then bard quest.

i also did 11pld, and 11bst

i'm now 21brd/bst.

why should i pick sub whm when i have no time to rest and cast spells?

elvaan gete sucky mp but make good bards and beasty boys.

Galka Bard. 64mp at 21bard/9whm. 8 Cures is 240hp, enough to hold out while the whm meds if needed. In qufim, i have time to requiem the monster, minuet and madrigal the group, then spot heal those who are low on hp. Afterwards throw out a paeon2 and heal your mp to full. repeat. Never a dull moment.

Hey Trip69, you can clear some of that confusion away by reading this forum. The whole WHM is only good sub for BRD topic (and to a lesser degree RDM) has been done to death so much that I don't know how you missed it.

i didn't miss it. but i tend to play a char the way i want to and not everyone else's cookie cutter view.

so if you want to /whm go ahead - i seem to get plenty of invites as brd21/bst even from japanese parties.

later and good luck with your bard what ever your choice. if you are going to be a bard sing dang it and sing well.

i met a bst/brd and he sang sometimes but not all the time and didn't help support the party with his sub job so why did he sub bard if not to sing.

i sub bst for better bard stats and survival.

As a BRD you will always get invites. You will still get invites if you have no sub at all. But never will you get invited over a BRD/WHM or BRD/RDM, ever. And righty so.

Survival? BRD's rarely take damage in groups, if ever.

then i guess i screwed up as an elvaan brd/whm i'm not as good as a taru brd/whm. well too bad it's may char and not yours, i'll play my char and you can play yours. if you feel i'm not a good bard, that's cool. take it easy and good luck.

I thought you said you where a BRD/BST? I never said anything negative about the Elvaan race in regards to being a BRD. Don't put words in my mouth.

The effectiveness of a Song is based the instrument you use, and your Charisma lvl. The higher the CHR, the more effective the songs. So using a BST sub is a very viable combo. And also an Elvaan by nature have high CHR. Tarus and Humes are the same. Mithras and Galkas being the worst. If you sub anything other than a BST as your sub, you're CHR decreases, not by much though.
Even so, everyone should change their subs depending on what they are doing.
