leveling of subjob

I have a couple questions about how the subjob levels. Does it level on its own along with the main job while you have it set as a sub or do you have to actually level the subjob separately?

Basically, does the experience you gain while having a sub go towards the leveling of it or do you have to level it separately? Answers to these questions would be much appreciated.

It's kinda like the FFV and FFT system. You have a list of jobs, and you can level each of them seperately.

You can only level 1 job at any time. Subjob gains no exp.


For example, I had to first level BLM to 18, get sub job quest, then change to lv 1/1 WHM/BLM and level that.

To expand off of Yunalung's explination. Every job maintains it's level and only the Main job gains EXP. The level of your subjob is forced to a level that is half your main (This forced cap is temporary and is readjusted so that your sub will be half your main untill the job you have as sub is at it's original level).


So if you have a BLM lv. 18 and you switch WHM to main and sub BLM you'll be 1/1(18) in level, but once you get to lv. 4 WHM you'll be 4/2(18), lv. 6 main 3 sub, and so on...

At lv. 36 you'll be 36/18, at 38 you'll be 38/18, then 40/18, and so on till you switch BLM to Main again then you'll end up BLM/WHM at 18/9(36 or which ever number greater then 9). again at 30/15(36), 40/20(36), 50/25(36), etc.... to 72/36, 74/36, and so on.

Here's another question. I have a lvl 14 WAR and I want to level up my black mage. Would it be easier for soloing purposes if I level warrior to 18 to get my subjob and then sub warrior for leveling up black mage and white mage?

Ok, so I plan on being a BLM/WHM, would the easiest way be to level the WHM up to 18 and then use it as a sub for BLM? Input is appreciated.

I'd say yes, blm is pretty hard to level in comparison to whm, since at least whm's get a hammer. They're both pretty slow to be honest, but being able to cast cure while levelling blm should make things easier.

your WAR is lvl 14?
the easiest thing to do at this point is get WAR to 18, and do the subjob quest.
then level up WHM/WAR to level 5 or so.
then just level up BLM/WHM, and keep your subjob leveled.

That's true, but I'd rather not use my WAR. If I decided to level my WHM up to 18, I'd use it as a subjob and not have to worry about leveling it for quite some time.

But if I level WAR to 18 then I can get my subjob and use it to help level up my WHM to use as a sub for BLM.
