My general beef with the Elvaan race

I agree any job is playable by any race. The thing that changes is how you play them. One race may be a lot more money conservative but ultimatly very frail and have low survivability. Another race picking certain job combinations they will spend more money to be as efficient.

The thing people forget is weather you are Taru or Galka mage, 1 race will benefit more from use of other things like +Stats and foods/drinks then another race. In the end even if both races spent tons of money it does reach a point were both are near equal in ability.

A galka mage may not have a lot of MP to use but because they still have tons of HP using the MP on themselves is not as important because are far more durable then a Taru which will need to use their MP on themselves to survive meaning more MP consumed.

Keeping that in mind and you'll, hopefully, realize that the MP the taru's use to survive a battle and the MP the Galka can save not using those same spells ends up just about equalizing them both.

Not to mention that not all mage classes are owned purely by taru in dominance, the RDMs I've seen used far better with less money by races like the Hume, Mithra, Elvaan, and Galkas. Damn my server even has a LS I met once composed of nothing but Galka Mages all of which were fairly high leveled and they did a great job at being mages.

I chose Elvaan because I planned to be a RDM from the start. STR for low level melee work. MND for Healing and Enfeebling Magic.

I've had people deny me groups because of my race, then later find themselves grouped with me and apologizing due to how well I play the job. I routinely put the WHM to shame with my MND+20 and MP+130. (Food and Elvaan RSE 365MP)

As DRK, I have far more DEX+ equipment since I've sub'd THF since the early Lv.30s. Trying to get my WAR sub up to par, then I have to buy DEF and more Acc+ gear. But Elvaan has never really been an problem for me. I always the best gear I can get my hands on.

Gear and food can make up for your racial down falls.

In general, race is marginal for XP PTs overall, skill and decent gear is most important--slap on slightly better gear on a worse race with good player skill and, bam, decent PT. You don't XP on shit that drains you every time, so a little bit of difference is, well, not much difference at all. Race differences only really show up at the times that "uber equipment" dfferences really show up--when you have almost no margin for error. I have no contention with XPing with a Taru PLD or a Galka WHM or an Elvaan BLM--if they play their jobs well, just don't expect me to go try to duo lowbie HNMs with them and we are good to go.

Taru-2 hits=death at high lvls

Obviously you have never met a decent Taru PLD, we have several running around Cerberus and they a wonderful job, just as good as any other race i've seen take up this class. No doubt, i like Humes and Elvaan better as pld's, but don't knock it til you see it in action.

And yes, because of their stat boosts in STR and MND elvaan make great MNK's. Problem is that not a lot of people realize how important the MND stat becomes to the MNK at later lvls. It's the reason why you'll see a few lvl 75 mnk/whm's running around the place from time to time. Only way to get that higher MND stat is whm sub. Being an elvaan increases this even more.

I agree with you euric, People who try to say such and such are the only good mages or melee are boring. If everybody was the same how intresting would that be -.- booooo. lol Alot of the best whms I know are Galka, and I also know alot of kickass elvaan black mages. -.- The people that say a race can't be another job effectively make me as sick as the people that think people that role play online are idiots. I am an Elvaan White Mage. Kust Attained level 25 today ^^ Its true I dont have a lot of mp but its still enough to get me through a battle. Although if i do Raise i will have about 28mp left i think

Best WHM I ever partied with was a Galka WHM, and I static'd with him for 10 levels.

Anywho... To the TOPIC of the thread I think that Elvaan can be great damage dealers, tanks, or even mages. Normally I prefer Taru BLM, and I haven't seen many Elvaan WHMs... But with the right gear and a good mind about how to play the job, it's very possible to exceed at any one of them. I've played DRK to 62, THF to 37, and MNK to 40, and with the right gear I have no problem missing any more than any other race. Too bad the gear costs an arm and a leg but what can ya do >_<.

Edit: Have only played PLD to 21 but I'm planning on leveling that up to after leveling with a really amazing Elvaan PLD from 52-62.

As for their stats, Hume-alright, Elvaan-need higher mp even as a pld, Galka-very limited job options, Taru-2 hits=death at high lvls, Mithra-good in everything.

All the races ARE balanced. People are too stupid/poor to know how to play them right.

I play 2 different characters, an Elvaan and a Taru. The two are vastly different and I have noticed those differences in the course of my playtime. I am happy with both races however and would never not level a job because "that race isn't suited." The reason I started my Elvaan is that I wanted to try things from a different perspective. (well ok, so it started as a mule but then I got curious XD) Anyway, my point is I've gained enough experience in my time on this game to make any job on either character successful. With the right gear and a little research, I'd feel confident leveling my Taru NIN or my Elvaan SMN.

For every mage like you, there's on that DOES get killed in two or three hits and only has enough time to squirm before they're jammed into the cracks of the floor because they pulled too much hate.

I find it refreshing when a mage can hold his own for a bit when he/she takes hate. Macros aren't as fast as they used to be...

If someone is outperforming you, it's because they have better gear. (This goes with most races/classes.)

umm at level 50 mithra have 12 more dex then elvaan, so if you meant one or two like 1 in front of a two then yeah your correct.

oh and fine you wanna complain about your race, understandable, as a mihtra blm i often want to complain about my race (im also a mihtra ranger level 40 atm so all complaints go out the window when im rngering it up) but my point is how would you love to have the best stat in an aera where post level 50 there are more that stat ups then any other stat.

I mean accuracy, yeah we mithra have high dex, but who cares when you have an elvaan warrior dual wielding vik. axes wearing a life belt who misses less then your mithran samurai.

be gratefull you have high str, last time i checked its a complete and total >>>> to get str for a mithra.


The only race i hate are humes, they have this incredible RSE set at the 30s, that can pretty much fill any gap for any job.
