Seeking some advice on race and job selection...

I won't make this a long post. I basically know I will either start in San d'Oria as an Elvaan or in Bastok as a Hume or Galka. My choices for main jobs are warrior, paladin, samurai, or beastmaster (and maybe dark knight). I prefer Elvaan and either samurai or beastmaster as a main job at this point. I need advice on choices. If I did go WAR all the way, what would be a good sub-job? For the rest of the advanced jobs, would the WAR suffice as a good sub-job?

I would want to pick a job that isn't extremely commonplace so I want to get on Midgardsormr if that fact helps. I have also heard a couple people say that BST is diffucult to level, any truth to that?

My advice wither you play hume or elvaan start in Sandoria... there's many CP items that are quite good throughout the lvs that you can acquire even if you have 0 gil.


PLD, drk, sam jobs require you to lv up warrior for subjob uses, it's standard.

BST requires you to lv white mage for subjob uses, it's standard.


If you're not sure what you want to play yet, I advise you play a hume.

So you say level WHM subjob for BST because it will be better for soloing? Can you heal your pets?

no to healing your pets (iirc) until you get the BST ability to feed your pets food.

try to break it down like this, do you want/like to tank, deal damage or solo? If you go the tank route, then PAL/WAR or WAR/MNK is what you want to aim for. If you go damage, then WAR/SAM or SAM/WAR. If you want to solo, then BST/WHM (BST/WAR would be somewhat more party friendly).
