  • Full Job Panic! Well nah not really.....

Hullo all! Like the rest of the good PS2 people I got my FFXI and hooked it up on Wed......

I love the game....much much better than I expected...had some good times when I was on Wed....

Met some nice people, watched some funny stuff go down, beat down some huge hornets....

Sadly I have to leave FFXI til next week due to job related matters and I will be out of town.

I plan to change my job when I get back. I just don't know what I should move to.

In other games I've played (MMORPG or otherwise) I've done the tanking and didn't really care for it. I've mostly been a caster of some sort.....

I really want to be a melee beat em down type in this game....I'm just not sure as to which path I should go. I do want to be a fun class but at the same time I want to be a class that gets a party when the time is right.

Also....with me being a PS2 Newbie should I think about things like costs in choosing a class? I'm still learning how things work in FFXI but it seems like a low level person will have problems keeping up-to-date gear, weapons and spells if they aren't a thief. I know jobs like rangers will be super expensive down the road but how about starting out? You know (for example) would a warrior be harder to pay for in the long run starting off since he wears more gear and needs more weapons than a monk?

So I could use a little help.....and I hope this is the right section for these types of questions lol. All thoughts, ideas and comments you wish to share would be most helpful.

Simply put....if I'm not doing the nuking, the tanking, the buffing or the healing.....what job would be best for me?

And please don't say unimportant hume wandering npc #3 lol.....

Thanks in advance.....and FFXI is cool! Wish I was back at home playing it lol......

Oh yes Tokagero lvl 4 hume monk....standing behind some box or something in bastok on the cerebus server!

Damage dealers have the hardest time finding a party. There is are only two jobs that can tank (Paladin and Ninja), two that can heal (Rdm and whm), two that can nuke (rdm and blm), get a bunch more that do melee damage (mnk, war, drk, drg, sam etc). I also hear melee damage dealers have the hardest time finding parties. x.x

Any job that isnt a mage isnt expensive. You can always sell back your armor and weapons, however spells are a one time deal. But PLD and BRD will always get invites, as well as RDM and WHM.

At least the good part is you can always change your jobs with no problem. ^^

LOL that is a bunch of nonesense.

Melee jobs are just as expensive if not more so then mages. And mages can get off not having the best equip and often not all thier spells were melee damage are expected to have at least good if not the best equip or they will not find themselves getting many invites.

Every job is expensive how good you want to be depends on the amount of work you put into it.

As was stated above, the damage dealing melee have a harder time getting a pt due to how many there are.

Have you considered a THF perhaps? Help with aggro control w/o being the tank, get a bit more $$, and do some nice damage with your special abilities.

There are way too many DRK around.

WAR are versitle, they can both tank or be damage dealers depending on equip/food.

Theoretically, WAR is the best class for your preference. They get PT invites rather easily for a melee because they can do more than just 1 thing (dmg dealing). They can tank if need be, or dish out the dmg.

Now for one opinion. You might want to go with a MNK/THF, or THF/MNK if you'd like. Your already headed on the path for it, and MNKs are certainly melee dmg givers. With a /THF tacked on it can mean you getting the dough while still doing the dmg, not to mention its AGI and DEX helps for the MNK. However, this combo will rarely get more PT invites that a WAR, DRK, SAM, or DRG unless being chosen for a specific task (NM hunts).

And another opinion. My personal opinion would be to go for a SAM or DRG. They are both dmg dealers and, while they may have slight trouble getting into PTs because of the volumes of melee, they aren't overly expensive like the RNG (always spending cash on missles they never get back...coughsameascoughcoughspellsweeze). The reason I say to go with these over another melee like a DRK is because you generally have an easier time getting somewhere as a DRG or Sam than you would as a DRK. Take into consideration this is coming from a previous DRK whos had his time as a SAM. I say they're easier because in early lvls they are superior to a DRK. The DRK doesn't get Guillotine (an awsome Weapon Skill) until later lvls while the DRG gets Penta Thrust (another awsome Weapon Skill that DRGs swear by) rather early and SAM get their TP gaining abilities around the same time.

Really its entirely up to you. If you truly want to be a DRK instead, or hell, if you prefer going as a melee NIN, then do that. Don't have an "I want to be cookie cut" attitude. Do what you'll have fun doing. Well, I hope this helps in making a decision.

            HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

Sorry if that was immature, but I just had to laugh.

So, I guess Ninjas and Rangers aren't expensive, since they aren't really mages.

...But, wait a minute; Aren't Rangers and Ninjas the most expensive jobs in the game? Why, yes they are!

            Hmm...

            Too bad it's garbage.

Well in every game.. there is a class or a type that is basically the jack of all trades. As for race, Hume can do anyclass well enuf but doesnt mean they are the best for it. Enough said, this isnt what this post is about. If you really liek to have fun be a jack of all trade and pick "WARRIOR". Warrior in short can basically take any melee position in party depending on subjob and playstyle. Same thing as RDM can both nuke and heal but not extremely well in either but do a sufficient job. A warrior can do the same meleewise.

A War/Thf can end a renki with strong WS by using sneak attack.
A War/Sam can be the 3rd dmg dealer doing shield break then meditate up to do WS chains with rest of the melee.
A War/Nin can tank extremely well @ L74-75, thought they can do that job sufficiently enough L24-74( L24 is when you can get utsusemi ichi from your nin sub, assuming its maxed).

Thought you might have a hard road down your career leveling up, A versatily War with all the subs available are extremely desirable at higher lvls, they are also invaluable in some HNM battles where a blink tank woudl do the job much better than a PLD. Be a warrior, you will have lots of funs down the road being able to change yoru style of play depending on the PT configuration.

Of course keeping your item up to date can be a problem, but since you are a melee class you can always selll your old equipment back to the AH and afford new ones as long as you spend some adaquet time for farming.
