In terms of pure "looks" (I'm not talking game mechanics, damage, hate, etc.), I definitely think Paladin. The Holy Knight in Shining Armor tanking has great appeal.

As a THF i find PLD to hold the hate after my attacks MUCH better than a NIN tank. Thus my choice was PLD.

I like Pld for having lots of defence traits, and being able to wear heavy armor (which most ninjas can't do). But if theres 2 half-way decent ninjas in ur PT, they can be quite godly when tanking.

Blink tanks are great because the speed of the PT is increased an exceptional amount thanks to far less downtime.

yeah pld all the way for me. as a whm, i have had the most pleasent experiences with pld as the tank, nin hasted second, and warriors least favorite

Deffinetly PAL from everything ive seen so far. Granted the extent of my knowledge comes from the dunes but there is nothing that has stood up like a PAL as a tank so far. EXP just rolls in when you get a descent PAL around.

I think it really depends on the party for what Tank is best.

A paladin is great with a RDM and a WHM. You can fill in the rest with good Damage classes.

A good Ninja doesnt need a WHM but does need a good thief and a backup tank.

I just hit level 60 and now all those sub class thiefs have sneak attack so it really opens up what classes you can bring to the table.

A well equipped ninja with a nice pocketbook is hard to beat. If the group works well together to make sure he keeps hate, it really can be amazing. If there is a WHM in the group they can spend their mana hasting people lol.

i know this is kind of an old topic
but who in their right mind wants a warrior tank?

I can understand in certain situations (BCNM for example) paladin is a better choice than ninja, but warrior???waste of time.

That said, if we're not talking about any specific mob, then ninja is best by far. I played red mage to 60 before actually trying ninja, and it's much more fun when you don't have to spam Cure on the tank the entire fight(plus the paladin bugging you for Refresh), you can use MP for other things as well.

Not only that but my average exp per hour is 4,000 or better with a skilled ninja in the party...It can exceed 5000 per hour with a bard and red mage. (after Lv40)

The same way that bard is the best(most overpowered) mage job, I think ninja is the best melee job. The difference is, ninja requires more skill and more money. Though I won't deny that bard is a "busy" job.

I didn't vote because each type of tank is appropriate depending on your level, party setup and tactic. There are some occasions where I'm really glad I'm the tank, and then some where I wish I was a nin/war

Nin tanks are very good but there are some situations where other tanks are better (eg. after 71 when you get to fighting weapons in Ro'Maeve who have AOE attacks and do double-hits, and in Ranperre's Tomb where you fight undead 24/7 and plds intimidate them to goodness knows where). There is no 'best' main tank because a lot of this is situational.

IMO.. pld may or may not be the best main tank but is the best back-up tank.
