Just started playing in december, so most of my noobishness to FFXI has worn off. Just completed my nin subjob quest and leveled it just enough to be effective as a sub for my thief ( and YES I will catch it up to 15 shortly 
)
Trying to lay out a roadmap for what to do next in this game. Im an ex-everquester, so I do what comes naturally ( train and killsteal, haha j/k ) ~ level level and level somemore. So far I am rank 3 ( almost 4 ) and have only done the quests required to get to where I am at. I havent done many additional quests at all really ( bastok resident )...my thinking is to level up and make it easy to do the quests on my own. I am shooting for level 40/20 before I start really doing much else in this game. I am part of a VERY small linkshell ( no noobs or idiots or kids ) we might have 6-7 people on at peak hours, most of which do not have advanced jobs yet, so im sure i'll be helping folks with that as I go along.
Gear wise ~ what do I need to set my sights to? ( I already have decent gear, all level 25+ being geared towards thf style stats, wish FFXI had magelo ) I keep hearing about RSE gear ( race specific equip ) ~ its a quest in juno and is random apparently. What level do folks start doing these?
Crafting wise ~ 0's all across the board. I havent done a bit of tradeskilling. Since I picked up NIN as a subjob it looks like that will have to change if I plan on making powders. Anyone give me a rough idea where to start here?
Quest wise ~ Fame and rank...lil confused on this. The more quests you do, the higher your fame is. ( in whatever town you do the quest I guess ) Will increasing in rank automatically increase my fame? Fame is required for...what? Additional quests to open up? Seems like a huge pain in the ass

BCNM fights ~ I have about 70 BC's, and from what I understand 40/20 is generally the min level for the first BCNM's...correct? Anything else important I need to know?
Thiefly stuff ~ chests/coffers...same thing? I leveled a bit in the wadi so I have gotten keys/chests, pretty lame rewards in that dungeon. Coffers the same thing? Apparently as I get high enough level ( hide )I can get some thieves tools and begin trying to plunder dungeons...I guess this will just require me to know where chests spawn and check the spots.
Anyway, thats really all I can think of at this point. Any of the higher level folks mind chiming in on some of these questions, or anyone else that might have something to add...thanks!!
