  • Damage dealer...how much

After reviewing the classes i have come to believe that i have no idea who is the sufficent damage dealer class? Now i do realize that there are a few classes that are close dealing damage but i was wondering if you were to rank the class by the amount of damage which class would you list first? Thanks in advance.

Ranger and Black Mage are both tied for the top position. Depending on what you are fighting (Magic Resistent, Physical Resistent) then one or the other shine more. Ranger uses WS to achieve crazy damage, but can miss, while Black Mage uses Magic Burst.

DRK and THF are also very damaging classes aswell. DRK will do will do its damage over time, while THF does large amounts of damage once in a while (every minute to be exact). Like Vahl said though RNG and BLM are both the most damaging classes in the game. But if you dont want to be a ranged attacker, then go DRK or THF.
      DRK 25 / WAR 30 / THF 25 / MNK 19

Between like lvls 40-59 I don't find DRKs to be that impressive. With my Warrior character I constantly outdamaged them. Once they get Guillotine I hear they are much better but that is why you don't find many 40-59 DRKs once they hit around 45-50 most quit on my server. The answer is RNG and BLM are the biggest hitters but they have to watch their hate.

After them comes a mix of MNK, DRK, DRG, SAM, and close after is a WAR with good equipment that sometimes outdamages the other classes. The problems with MNK DRK SAM and DRG is they all have a period of lvls when they are just plain weak and some find it hard to find a group during this time.

So choose whichever one you really want cause what makes it the top damage dealer is the equipment you have.

Right now I am lvling up my WAR and have it at lvl 34 and not to sound snobbish but I have great equipment the best actually, and I eat cheifkabobs and I have yet to meet a DRK DRG MNK or SAM that outdamaged me. If they would stop being so cheap and pony up the gil to buy better equipment and food then yeh they would. But right now who needs a paladin when as a tank I outdamage everyone else in the group lol. I dont even need voke.

And on a side note I took ranger up and let me tell u if u dont have the gil it is not impressive I spent about 2.5mil on my ranger, and what makes a ranger is his equipment. They can outdamage any class in the game (although if u plan on going all out i suggest subbing /nin for utsusemi and the 2 archers knifes don't hurt or 2 hawkers knife if you have the dough PLEASE someone buy my hawkers knife they are only 280k). Anyways back on topic so you can't really rank classes like that because the rank changes depending on the lvl and their equipment.

As for endgame I am not sure but I have heard it is something like this MNK, DRK, DRG, SAM. But I have not gotten anywhere close to 75.
        RNG : 66 NIN : 30 WAR : 49 MNK : 72 THF : 18 WHM : 10

          My $0.02

BLM and RNG, while easily the best classes for dealing lots of damage in a short time, have no inherent ability to get rid of hate. Subbing thf for either is ineffective as sneak and/or trick attack doesn't work for ranged weapons on RNG, and there are obviously many reasons why it is impractical on BLM. So these classes are heavily limited by the amount of hate that the tank can hold. Normally if they get too much aggro, then you will just try and kill the monster as fast as possible and hope the person taking the aggro will last until then. This is a problem in longer fights such as HNM or BCNM where... you can't just kill a monster within a minute. And yes, any rng who doesn't shell out for top notch gear will do hardly any better than the lesser damage dealers (if at all) while spending a considerable amount of gil--really quite pointless.

BLM has the problem of running out of MP over time--particularly if they start using ancient spells, so if a monster isn't dead by the time a BLM's MP is drained, his damage output drops to virtually nothing. In the long run this can also become a problem in exp PTs if a BLM keeps running out of MP, as you will have a difficult time chaining mobs while waiting for MP to regen back to the point where you can kill a mob in the limited chain time. They also require skillchains to be used so that MB will increase their killing efficiency (damage:MP spent ratio) to make those high MP use spells worthwhile. BLM is powerful, but sometimes it's just better to have the other damage dealers around in place of a BLM if they keep running out of MP.

Essentially, the whole PT has to be crafted around a BLM for them to work well, unlike the others. You will never want to have more than one--there isn’t enough support in a 6 person PT for more than that. You can have a full PT of BLM that will do awesome damage in a really short time, but without a BRD + ballad2 and some method of refresh (food or RDM), downtime is extremely frustrating from my experience.

RNG and BLM are the two classes are the best of what they do, but they are not as dominant as you would expect. This gives the melees some very needed merit, though they aren’t terribly effective substitutes (if BLM and/or RNG is unavailable) until the 50s—and even then, still need really good equips to do well. How effective melees actually are, I’ll leave for another discussion.
