  • Job Level Question

Right now I am level 16 WHM.
If I change my job to level 1 anything else can I still use all the level 16 white mage stuff?
Whats the point of leveling another job until 30 if it does not help you any, because at level 30 you will want one of the advanced jobs.

When you switch to another level job, you are level 1, you can't use level 16 white mage stuff.

You start from scratch as a level 1 XXX job.

You want to level up other jobs to a certain level for many reasons. They are all beneficial to you in 1 way or another.

When you switch to a lv. 1 job you won't be able to use any of the WHM abilities unless it is subbed..

If it is subbed you'll only be able to use the abilities of the WHM. However you'll only get to use what level your sub is at, and you sub can be forced down levels depending on what your main job is.

For example a lv. 1 blm and lv. 16 whm subbed the lv. 16 whm will be forced to lv. 1 (Temporary cap as long as it's subbed).

The advantage of this is your lv. 1 blm has a healing ability, that's about as powerfull as lv. 1 whm.

As you level your sub will increase too till it reaches it's previous level that you went to (You can switch back to whm and sub blm at any time and as often as you like). Sub's level are always forced to be half the level of your main so for the first 3 levels your sub will remain lv. 1 if it's max level is higher then 1.

At lv. 4 your sub will be lv. 2, at 6 it'll be 3, and so on.

There are certain penalties that occur too if you have a main as a pure melee class and sub a mage class, the mage class will have a stunted amount of mp (about half what you would get if it was main). So basically a WAR/WHM of lv. 1 would sort of resemble that of a PLD advanced job as far as stats and mp you get go, they are close but not exact.

If you sub a magic melee with a mage class then you'll notice your mp to resemble something similar to a person who just has a mage class with no subbed mage class. For example PLD/WHM, PLD/BLM, DRK/WHM, DRK/BLM. These combinations are often disputed weather they are good or not. I have seen a PLD/WHM and DRK/WHM used first hand and both seem quite formidable to me. PLD can control hate very effectivly with Curaga if he uses it right, many times that has been much more effective then when I have a warrior and his provoke.

Anyway that pretty much explains a lot of how working on other jobs and such help you. Just because you raised a job to lv. 30 and went and completed the advanced job(s) that you want, you can still use the jobs you have leveled as subs to give you an added edge...

      EDIT:

Some extra info I just realized I should add, job combinations such a mage/mage and melee/melee are also quite powerfull. WHM/SMN, BLM/SMN, and RDM/SMN all have huge amounts of mp. The WHM/SMN after a certain level can regenerate hp and mp without having to rest (Though resting will help restore it faster). The other two after a certain level are able to regenerate Mp without resting (again resting will help to restore it faster).

With melee classes ones like WAR/MNK, MNK/WAR, THF/MNK, etc... get many advantages. A WAR/MNK and MNK/WAR get 2 abilities to push their attacks strength up, as well as counterattack and a much larger amount of Hp. A THF/MNK also gets 2 abilities to push a single attack strength up, as well as counterattack and much larger amount of Hp, and able to get more items from a monster fight. A THF/WAR gets 2 abilities to push attack strength up, and able to get more treasures drop from each monster fight.

There are many combinations and responsability that your main job has in order to properly perform the job what you have to do can vary depending on the subs..

I do not understand why they are beneficial when you can only use 2 at a time. Your main and sub-job.

It comes in useful depending on what you are doing, if you are trying to make money you'll probably want a THF subbed and at a good level so that you get the abilities and such from the sub to help making money easier.

An example would be like a BLM/SMN that need to make money. If he were to fight NMs with that job alone it can take him a LONG time to get a drop he wants to make money. If he has THF at a level were he has Treasure Hunter, then he can go BLM/THF hunt a few NMs for drops and spend far less time. On top of which if he's hunting monsters that drop gil he gets more gil out of the drops by having THF subbed.
