That's all fine and dandy, but when I'm forming a group I always have a dark knight, warrior, or dragoon readily available; the others, however, take some time for me to round up. Hence, my popularity scale.

Again, this is levels 1-35, and right now a lot of the NA players are starting to get their advance jobs, so that may be the reason for the increase in Dragoon and Dark Knight. Samurai and Ninjas are starting to become more commonplace as well.

Ranger is the only job where it is viable to use a range weapon as your main means of attack. I just brought up pulling because I was pulling with arrows while playing my Samurai. Rangers are damage dealers, the highest in the game I believe.

Niexist calling people ignorant thats good stuff, considering I dont remember the last post of his I haven't found ignorant. Anyways I agree with Hattori also take into account how many warriors you see running around with spears and scythes, want to take a guess what class they are shooting for? Nothing wrong with playing a popular class so take a breather Niexist its gonna be ok.

In my partyable range (@Lv49) on my server right now, there is about 3-4 PLDs, 1-2 BLMs, 2-3 DRKs, 2-3 DRGs, 1 RDM, 2 WHM, 1 WAR, 0 MNK, 1-2 THF, 0 BRD, 0 SMN, 0 RNG.

I end up usually playing with the same mix of people. Assuming I even get into a PT that is.

However, the people I can usually get a steady PT with have play schedules that aren't exactly convenient for me (late night --> early morning).

On the other hand, a fellow DRG and I seem to be competing for the same spot in the PT whose schedule is convenient for me (day), and he usually ends up winning.

I think while DRGs are fewer in number than other classes, the reality is that it doesn't feel that way. Unlike say, a RDM or PLD, who compete mainly with each other, DRGs also have to compete with every other attacker class.
