  • Elf. what are they good for?

I start my characther as an elf about 1 month ago. I'm a warrior and kinda like it and all. I was planning to be Paladin so that was fine to me. But recently I start to like the blm and whm a lot more and my current race would not cut it.

But I don't see a lot of possible sub-job because I'm an elf and they dont have mp :dead:

I almost wish I went human or mithra instead.

I played whm for 11 lvl and but I have so much less mp than a human that its not funny.

What will it be at lvl 30!!!????

Anything an Elf is good for at all execpt Melee class like paladin?
If I had INT + item, will it increase my mp????

Please help, any good elf mage around???

if you wanted to be a melee, but you want magic, I think you were going in the right direction.

PLDs have a good amount of white magic, and they keep hate by curing people (which sets them off from WAR) so even as a PLD, you'd still be able to heal people like you do as a WHM
Most memorable WoW vent convos on Burning Legion:

      "Dude...I just wrote a sonnet, about taking a dump." - Kronos (2006)

"Guys, I just set my oven on fire by trying to cook ramen in it, and broke the fire alarm with a frying pan. I think I'm in trouble." - Brawny (2006)

"But Hisdon, why wouldn't you want The Unblockable Shield - wait a minute..." - Sasukekun (2005)

I also started off as an Elvaan thinking I'd be playing a melee type class, specifically dark or paly. Turns out I ended up enjoying mage classes a good deal more.

Having now gotten relatively far into the game (40s level, all but two of the advanced classes opened, rank 5) I can say that the road forward as an Elvaan mage is toughest from about the teens through to about the early 30s.

As you stated, your mp situation just isn't too hot as an Elvaan and though adding a subjob (i.e. /BLM or /WHM) helps, you'll always be a step (or two) behind your Mithra, Hume and Taru bretheren.

All this truly does change however by the time you get into your mid 30s--by then new equipment becomes available to you that helps bridge the MP gap considerably---you'll likely never overtake, say a Taru, but you'll get to an MP point that is more than respectable. The Elvaan RSE gear (high 20s to low 30s, obtainable via quests or purchase at 30-50K per piece) adds a total of +60 MP. Electrum Rings (roughly 10K each) add +20MP each (at the cost of 20 HP). And on and on.

I'm currently at approximately +135 MP and have overtaken some of my hume and mithra mage friends.

Even better is if you start to party with Red Mages at 41+ who have refresh. My set party has a red mage and between my MP gear and his refresh, our group honestly hasn't worried about MP much at all outside of NM fights--which I carry juices, pies, roasted mushrooms for anyhow.

Oh, and +Int gear increases magical effects of black magic, has no bearing on MP.

So, it'll be a bit tough, and you'll never have the most MP absolutely possible, but no, you're not stuck w/ just melee classes. Elvaan mages are more than viable--just as if you're willing to work at it, you can be a taru Paladin.
