Can't decide...

I'm sure everyone is tired of these sort of threads, but I can't resist. I've been playing for about 3-4 weeks now and I still haven't gotten a single character above level 10 (a common problem with me and MMORPGs...in EQ i had about 7 different level 20-30s, about the same in DAoC).

I think I've got it pretty much narrowed down to a few choices (though it all changes for me pretty regularly)

MNK/WAR
WAR/MNK
THF/NIN
BRD/THF or RDM

Other classes I have ruled out due to various reasons...

What I would call my favorite classes from previous mmorpgs out of the ones I played as were...EQ: Bard, Thief, Monk...in DAoC: Warrior, Mentalist, Berserker, Champion, Friar

I know everyone says play as what you want, but I'm not sure what that is (my first choice before the game came out here and before checking boards was DRG/SAM...lol, way too many of 'em).

I'd like to be at least moderately wanted for groups, or at least excepted with few reservations. I think my current fav out of the bunch is the MNK/WAR (or /THF), but I'm not entirely convinced on their end-game usefulness (or maybe it's the relatively low-output levels between 30-50 or so).

In any case, any advice or the like would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

also wanted to mention my love for the samurai, but I've been greatly unimpressed with what I've read about the class from higher level players.

I've been in kind of a similar situation, though for different reasons. I started out intending to play a Monk/Thief, and quickly started to realize just how incredibly one-dimensional the monk job is and got bored with it. Then I started playing WAR, which I enjoy a lot, and I saw the Paladin AF armor, and was set on wanting to be a paladin, but two things have dissuaded me from that... first that there are quite a few paladins running around, at least on my server, and only so much demand for melee jobs... and also being a Mithra, I started to question whether my somewhat deficient HP left me suited to the job.

As such, I've toyed with all the basic jobs. I think my favorite is Red Mage, but one of my friends, who I hope to party with often, is building a Red Mage, so I decided I should do something different. For now, I think I'm going to go White Mage (with a Black Mage subjob), though I've still got my eye on being a Paladin eventually, even if it's just something I do for a change of pace.

But then, I could change my mind tomorrow. Who knows?
