  • set party formation, any thoughts?

I'm planning out a set party to level in for the time being and I'd like some input. The current formation is:

    drk/war (me)
    pld/war
    thf/nin
    rdm/(blm or whm)
    blm/whm
    brd/whm

Are there any forseeable problems with this formation? We'll be starting at 30, so any problems before then aren't an issue. My main concern is not having a main healer. However, I think in the long run red mage will be more useful (particularly for dispel and refresh) and with 3 potential healers plus the paladin's cures, I think we will be okay. Does anyone have input on why this might not work at 30+?

Also, which sub would be more beneficial for rdm in this configuration? It seems to me that either would be just fine, but I might be overlooking something.

    It works real well

    RDM should sub WHM

    Just don't die :p

Also, at level 60, either DRK should switch to SAM sub, or THF should switch to SAM sub. If DRK goes SAM sub, it's better for skill chain cuz then you can also use your WS in between, if THF sub SAM then you go all solo. Since you have a BLM and RDM for the back though, I recommend the former. BLM does so much better with magic burst.

Levelling subjobs (and weapons) might throw you a little off track though, make sure you guys work something out.
    DRK75 / THF37 / WAR37 / RDM60 / BLM31 / PLD11

Thanks for the reply Awntawn, and only 15 minutes after I posted the topic

Our subs will already be leveled to 30, in fact that's what we're working on now (or in my case, sub is already at 30, so I'll be leveling main from 1). Weapons is something I didn't think of, but I don't see any real problems as long as we keep our skill levels updated.

sounds like a great formation - you might not feel the full value of rdm until 40+ when they get convert and refresh, but you'll certainly feel it then. (maad-chaining!)
you might miss whm because of teleporting though, it does really help. I wouldn't sacrifice brd or blm in place for a whm though.

I'm in a set PT of:
rng, pld, blm, whm, brd (still need thf >_<)
when we do get a thf piercing>viper+MB usually gets 1000+ which is fantastic. Hopefully you can find a good renkei between drk and thf :D

        good luck

Hehe, yeah renkei was another concern I had, but since I'm the drk, and you basically need a thf, there's really no way around that issue:sweat: I hope to find something that works well, even if I have to use 2h sword instead of scythe on some occasions.

It looks good, but personally I would have maybe subbed something else for THF (depending on the equipment). And second I would have taken out the blm/whm for another thf . But if not THF always renkei's with DRK and make sure you have the MB at the end^^.

john, I was just wondering - does subbing sam (at your level) make any difference to your TP uppage? cos I'm forever waiting for the thf to catch up TPwise, sometimes I'm even at 300% before they get to 100 -_- (depends on the thf really)

                one thing i noticed;

as u lvl higher, pld tends not to take part in renkeis, since they have to heal mp after battles thus losing tp's. also pld has very low dex status, and that results in slower tp gain. that means, u go for renkei w/ drk and thf, but they don't go along well when it comes to renkei at lvl 60+. the reason is simple; the strongest ws' at that lvl for drk and thf is "guillotine" and "dancing edge," but these 2 don't link. drk can go for "vorpal scythe," but it's way weaker than "guillotine." then u have 2 choices; ignore renkei and go for singles, or stick to renkei w/ weaker ws'.

btw, having sam for drk's sub at 60+ could be very dangerous. drk's attack is very strong, and especially if u r using scythe and use "guillotine" too many times, u'll draw the mobs' target off of pld, and that could result in a quick death. personally i'll recommend thf for sub, coz w/ trick attack, u can put the hate onto pld.

Is this the question you wanted me to answer? Well, I think it adds about 1-2 exp per hit, but at 55 with triple attack i'll get more and get it faster. If your that much ahead then the THF better get damn good acc. equipment. I tried subbing Ninja and I got 5 per hit (10 each attack) and with sam I get about 6-7. At 60 it will be better becuase of TP concen.
