  • RDM or WHM or BLM - most wanted for parties?

Which of the three base caster classes is generally most in-demand by parties?

Kinda getting sick playing as a warrior, and having a gazillion other warriors competing for the same open spot in a party.

Depends on what the party already has. If the party already has a healer they will probably go for rdm or bm if the party doesn't have a healer then wm first followed by rdm.

    We're coming for you.

Later on I would say RDM is most popular of the 3 mages. Only red mages have refresh and convert, but they can also heal sufficiently and even do ok spell damage. Refresh is important for exp getting as well.
Still trying to play way too much...

I'd grab myself a WHM and BLM to join me and our PAL, BRD, and MNK as we go skipping down the road of Vana'diel...
        BLM is always welcomed
        So is WHM
RDM has usefulness after 32 for its dispel, But aren't in much demand earlier except for back-up healing/attacking/nuking.
So If your looking for a quick way to get party invites, I would say BLM
rather fast party invites, go WHM(since they don't have use til you party, soloing will be kind of tough)
RDM can level fast, but aren't always in the spotlight for partys

I'm a level 13 WHM. I was in La Theine last night for 1 hour. I got 6 party invites! Six!! It's insane. Even when I'm in a party I'm getting invites from people and I have to be like, um... sorry but I can't just abandon my party right now. Once you hit level 11 as a WHM a lot of people will want you in their party for Cure II. If it's parties that you want then you can't go wrong with the WHM job.

I like the solo ability of the Red Mage as I play at random times cause of my job. And I still get to have a use in groups when I do get a invte.

It's like a EQ Druid that can melee hehe.

WHMs are by far the most sought out class in the game.

This question has no easy answer because it depends on level.

In general, before level 40 WHM is in most demand, and after level 40 RDM is in most demand.

But really all mages are in demand.

You should play whichever fits your personality best. All mages are useful in a group, although white mage is always needed. I will group with almost anyone though, if they can act with courtesy, are friendly, and in general aren't jerks.

I say this just because I've had a lot of bad experiences lately.

Show intelligence, and I'm sure you'll get people on your friends list that will go out of their way to group with you.

Hard to say... I'm mainly a BLM, but I just started my WHM counterpart. However its not really high enough-level to really say for sure. What I do know though is that in the late teens and beyond the white mages seem to get sought after increasingly more-- especially at lvl 25 for raise. Every party loves having their own Raiser ^^
I'm working to be a summoner, but I intend to level both my black and my white. I'm level 22 BLM, and when I hit seek party and head down to Qufim, I usually get an invite before I even make it through the cave to the fields. I'll say that being a 22 BLM with Cure 2 has its perks

Do you want to be a full-time healer? Then go for whitemage. Great demand, and when looking for a party, something's wrong when you don't get an invite for the first five minutes that your flag is up.

You want to swing your sword and do magic and be able to solo on some quests?
-Redmage is better for this cause they have more hp, can do some melee damage, can take more damage from mobs than whm and blm, although they pretty much access all the whitemagic and darkmagic at a later lvl than the blm's and whm's do. You can do redmage/blackmage and get all the -ga spells later too which help in farming.Hopefully yLater on rdm, is in great demand too.

You want to cast the most powerful magic spells in the game? Try Blackmage, early on party invites are very nice (lvl10+). And you'll be doing the most powerful damage for awhile... until a few tens of levels later.

I've played both for just a tiny bit

                      BLM 22 / WHM 22 / RDM 18

Blackmage was fun because I did the most damage in my party at the time. May get redundant although you can cast very powerful magic damage. Great group invite rate for the levels i have played (almost as fast as whm). Best part was, going to Pal mines at lvl 22 and linking 20 or so quadavs. Then destroying all of them with Stonega, then Waterga. Twenty =) just like that. Although quite weak when solo-ing. Black mages cannot take hits, and I even have to be careful around "easy prey" monsters.

I tried picking Redmage next to try out something different. And I loved redmage. I liked the role of healing and debuffing. Just great =). And although people say whm's demand is much higher than rdm in the early levels, don't worry about that, although it's true. Because when whm's cannot be found, guess who's called? the Redmages. And whitemages can almost never be found, and if they are found, they're taken up fast. But playing both jobs, I can say I received invites almost as fast as whm.

Whitemage: The third mage job I had to try to find something to settle on. I love being support. Saving a random stranger who's being chased by a mob and running into town by curing them, especially when the next hit would've killed them. And making sure my party survives. Fast party invites. Lotsa fun if you like playing support (healing the party). Requires the most concentration out of the three mage classes (for the levels I have played them) because people's lives are counting on you! My eyes are usually glued to the hp bar on the screen. Downside with whm is that you really can't solo for jack, let's say if you wanted to do some quests and didn't want to bug all your friends to help you with them. This makes gil-farming hard too.

Hopefully this'll help cause these are just my opinions about my personal experiences. Enjoy =)

I have been in several parties in which we have decided if we can't get a whm or rdm (preferably whm) then we aren't gonna get started. We ALWAYS look for a whm first then, if there are none around, we look for a rdm (preferably with at least cure II). When it comes to a party looking for healers, beggers can't be choosers. As for BLM's, I find them to be very helpful and If I see one seeking and they are the right level we ussually invite them. Bards are also always wlcome

You will not have trouble getting a party as a WHM, BLM, RDM, or BRD. All of them get tons of invites. Mages are always a welcome addition.

I still remember one time I logged on when I was a level 24ish WHM at the entrance to Quifim in Port Jueno. I got 3 tells all asking me to party before the "Welcome to Bismarck" message came up. It's like they were camping my spawn. :p

Most good tanks I know (Paladins, Warriors, Samurai) don't have too much trouble finding a party. All PTs need a good tank or two.

Thief's get a lot of invites also because of yokodama. This might change with the patch, though.

The melee damage dealers are the ones that have the trouble finding a party. Frankly, at low levels, if you're a melee and you aren't provoking, the group would probably do just as good without you than they do with you. BLMs will do nearly double your damage (unless you're a ranger) and also are able to help heal at the end of battle (assuming they sub WHM). At high levels, I hear that melee damage starts to overtake BLM's damage. Even then, there's usually only 1 spot in each well-rounded party that is taken by a melee damage dealer, and If a Ranger is looking for a PT, then he'll probably fill that spot.

Actually, thanks to the "relative shortage" of white mages, red mages get a lot of invites. I'm actually starting to get the abuse whms get in qufim, with numerous tells asking if I'd like to join. Of course, it's not as bad as a whm (you'll notice most players that go /anon are white mages), and I do find myself waiting for maybe 20 minutes sometimes, but rdms are valued quite a bit.

Anyway, to answer your question: For the quickest invites, use whm. Then, if you want to, switch to bard at lvl 30.
