I'm just about ripping my hair out.

I have FFXI installed on a USB harddrive and its been fine for the 2 days i've had it installed. Playonline was installed on a seperate drive, but that made no diffrence,

Unfortunatly after a 10 hour party in Crawlers yesterday my portable Drives fan started making nasty, nasty sounds. So, rather than logging out i simply switched off the Harddrive and let the game error me out, since i wasnt sure my drive had the 30 seconds to log me out before it went boom. I thought it would just class as DC-ing.

The drive seems to be okay now, not gunna risk 10 hour sessions without shutting it off anymore, but it seems okay.

Now whenever i go into POL i can get to 'Play', then the second i hit it i get the Error 020 - Final Fantasy XI is not Installed. I even reinstalled POL on the same drive, made no diffrence.

I know for a FACT that the game is still there, a good ammount of my drive is filled with it and i remember the 8 hour update distinctly. It just refuses to recognise it.

I even tried 'Checking' the files when i first booted POL, and FFXI isnt even in the list.

My friend suggested to me that the Registry Files had been corrupted, but if thats true i have no idea how to fix it bar a complete reinstall. And i want that to be my last resort.

Please can someone help? I was gunna go farm for my Walkur Mask and get my AF Lance today

Strange... Sorry if i'm supposed to make more posts before asking for help, but this problem is one of the main reasons i'm here, though i plan on sticking around afterwards. Sucks only being able to talk to other FFXI players on Allak.

You're not supposed to make more posts before asking for help. You however are required to contribute more to the forum before posting links.

I'm not sure how to help you, sorry. In your situation I'd reinstall the game. That would be my first try rather than my last.

your going to have to reinstall, you should not have shut the USB HDD off like that, it corrupted the registry, by the sound of it.

I could point you where to find the registry files and stuff but not being sure what to change where... i will refrain from giving wrong advice.

Start reinstalling, the sooner you start reinstalling, the sooner you'll be playing again.

Are you sure it was the fans? What was the sound *exactly*? I could be the click of death.
