Re: Laptops & Fraps & Other Stuff

To be fair, anyone who uses another OS shouldn't be a critic of another.. It's just not fair, the Bias is already pre-written into the ROM. Ok, that was a bad analogy.

I have no problem with Windows, to be honest. Even XP had issues when it came out, but right now, it's a fine OS.

You really don't need to make excuses for this. It's a standard policy at most business IT departments to wipe and reinstall the OS on all new systems, and most IT professionals likely do the same with their home boxes.

Just tell them you have a standard OS install you use across your entire site.

Thanks Luna. I'm going with the dual booting... I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to transfer my files without rearranging.. But I'm just going to take it one step at a time and put my music all on an external enclosure while I have the free time before the laptop comes in the mail.

Re: Laptops & Fraps & Other Stuff

Feba, I was implying that Hardware ROM is unchangeable. But anyway, I'm on this new laptop and /gasp, I acutually like Vista! Or maybe it's the 1200 X 800 display and the fact that I can see EVERYTHING.

And I actually like Windows Media Center. Yeah, I know, I know, someone should shoot me dead. Don't worry, I still like Winamp more.

At the moment I'm downloading the update for the Vista POL.

Yay. 3 more hours. This is some BS. I'm gonna install FFXI via the disks, but I'm just going to copy and paste the files over from my hard drive. Would that take longer? Hell, would that even work?

Re: Laptops & Fraps & Other Stuff

I use WMP over Winamp and iTunes, just for the great looking music library.

I still don't understand what the big problem with Vista is. I've had it for months, and I've had zero problems. It plays all the games I want to play, and even some I don't.

As for the OP, I don't know if a 'media accelerator' will cut it when it comes to FFXI. You wont be able to swap it out either, because it's most likely built into the motherboard. I've read about an external graphics card that you can connect through a USB port and easily upgrade at any time you want, but last I heard it wasn't out.

                I'm the OP, Dak.

                /slap

And we'll see about running FFXI. I'm gonna try the copy and pasting thing.

                  OP as in original post.

To install FFXI you use the Vista POL first, then open the CDs and inside the INST folders should be the setup files you're looking for.

Yes, but what I'm saying is, there were a ton of updates since that 2007 pack came out, and I'm not trying to have this thing background running for like 8 hours getting all the updates.
