  • Is FFXI RAM or CPU Dependent???

Hey guys I have a quick question. I have an okay system 2 play the game on. The only thing annoying me is that I lag abit more than I used too on my other computer that crashed. I can hear my CPU fan speed up when i hit heavy graphic areas and untill the fan speeds up then i don't lag as much. I have an pretty good graphics card in it i'm no longer using the integraded originaly on the computer i'm now on a Nvidia6800 and now on 1gig of ram. I just don't want to upgrade to 2gig of ram only to find out it's not going to help anything. Is my CPU crap? or just not enough RAM? Here are my computer specs minus a the mods i mentioned. I'm also using XP Pro now.

You really need more RAM and soon, at least 1 Gb (2Gb would be great).

nVidia cards always have (more) lag problems.

your computer is more than adequate to handle the game. it could be, as mhurron said, an nvidia driver issue. they've had a bunch a problems with the 6x00 series of cards but i don't know if it was ever fixed.

                    Thanks Yyg!

Ya according to your first post, you have a stick of 512MB x 1. That's only half a gig. Where's the other half?

And RAM isn't the issue. Unless you really only have 512MB. 1GB of RAM is perfectly fine for this game.

My guess, like the others pointed out, is an Nvidia issue. Probably a driver issue or something. Nvidia cards just seem to have issues in some areas of the game.

Unfortunately it wasn't, and it is worse with the 8 series cards. It looks like the best chance of it getting fixed is going to be with the DX9 update coming with Wings.

Incidentally, 512MB running 2000 or XP is enough ram for the game unless you have an assload of background programs also running.
