Just got me new rig put together:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual COre 3800+
Windows XP Pro SP2
Asus Silent 7600GT PCI-E 256MB GDDR3
1GB DDR2 6400 RAM

INstalled Windows fresh (was going to go for 64bit but read POL didnt like it)...

So I start the POL and FFXI update and get impatient 1 hour in, thought I could just copy the install directory over the top and be away.

But no. Still wants to check all the files and presumably update them all over again afterwards

Is there anyway I can take advantage of having it installed and updated on a seperate HDD already so I get can on and play without waiting 4 hours for it to update?!

I did the Vanadiel Bench 3 on High Q and scored 6500

By copying the whole thing over, you'll only spend 10 minutes download the patch at most. The file check unfortunately will need to be done.
Make sure you install all the expansions from DVD just so they register to windows. Unless you know how to add regedit yourself (which I don't lol ; ; )

Cool iv just seen that it is already on "installing Files" which is still doing all 15K files but obviously didnt dl them all again.

But none the less I have still missed out on my play time tonight P

Looks like I will have to quest the other 2 Kazam keys tomorrow instead! I hope the rest of my Kazam party waited for me.

I remember there's a file somewhere where POL checks first tbefore determining whether or not to check/install updates. It's something it compares with the server. Unless you know exactly how this file works, there's no way to go around the whole file checking thing.

If you deleted this file, it forces POL to check your files before seeing if there's an update needed. This is what modders do in an event where their POL/client stops working after mucking around with their client too much.

Well, this topic title was kind of a letdown. I was expecting to see a pic of the sea horror, or maybe someone on your server created a mithra mule named Monicalewinski or something.

But Nooooo.... you had to post a common IT problem. Aeni is correct, it's a pretty quick fix. The problem of course is remember what the file is named. I seem to remember http://ffxidats.com/ had a part of their FAQ that listed the file, but for some reason I can't access the thing without getting an Error message. Oh well, I wish you better luck. I can commiserate with your situation though, when I updated my Mobo/Processor I went through the same thing. That file check can take longer than the entire patch process sometimes.
