Having problems...

I'm on a laptop. I have no number pad. I heard I could change my settings to compact so I can use my laptop keyboard. At the moment I am becoming frustrated with opening the main menu and moving.

All the commands I put in just pop up in my chat window as if I were trying to type. It would be much appreciated if someone could help me out with this problem!

Does this mean you've set it to compact and are having problems with the controls? Or that you can't find how to set it to compact?

To set it to compact, it's Menu > Config > Misc.

Normally, under Compact, you have to type a space or a slash, or press Ctrl-P/L/T/R/S to get the chat input to show up. Anything else pressed on its own should be a command or nothing. Outside of compact, yes, any key you press will bring up the chat bar unless you use Ctrl or Alt with it (e.g., Ctrl-H to heal, etc.). And regardless of setting, you can always press Ctrl/Alt and the - key to get the menu.
