A few days before the expansion release, I got a new video card, nvidia Geforce FX 5500. Not the most amazing thing in the world, but a heck of a lot more current than what I had previously been using. After installing, I was able to play FFXI as well as view models in the foyle and ffxitool viewers without issue.
A couple days after I had some virus issues come up that were promptly dealt with. After this, I went and upgraded some programs (windows update, directx, security software, etc) and did a variety of system scans to make sure everything was up to date and optimized for when the expansion came out.
Sometime between when I installed the new card and installing ToAU, the model viewers stopped displaying models properly. Currently the models they do display are spotty with large sections of them missing while other parts are shown. I have tried deleting the programs and downloading fresh copies, but the issue still remains.
FFXI itself for the most part still plays fine. The only graphic issue I seem to notice in-game is that sometimes a model will briefly distort into a spasm of polygons when viewed at certain angles. This has happened maybe like twice or so with player models, but seems to be most notable with the puppetmaster puppets. Sometimes I can view them just fine, but other times I'll only see the puppet's name with no visual figure beneath it and then walk a little distance away and see the puppet's model suddenly appear stretched and distorted away from it's name (or sometimes just distorted under its name).
I run the game on the lowest settings possible and currently use the 81.98 drivers (its what the card settings manager program downloaded when I installed the card). Any ideas at all on how to address either issue are appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your time and help.
