I used to un my FFXI client on a geforce 5600 128mb agp with 512 ram ( old fam comp) and it was never frames laggy ( except valkrum sand storm. )

I now have my own computer and i cant seem to get FFXI to work out just right in-town, its realllllllly frame laggy like anymore than 15 people ( doing the garrisons in W.Ronf ) and i get approx 5 fps. I dont know WHAT THE HELL is going on, no background apps, ( except vent voice chat ) and i have tried numerous settings if anyone know how to tweak my system to run FFXI perfectly please help.

Oh yeah, here is my current setup

GeForce 6800 GT 256mb AGP
Dual-channel pc3200 ram (1gb)
3.0Ghz P4 with HT ( prescott model )
Resolution set at 1280x1024 and i have tried both 1024x1024 and 512x512 Background resolutions.

If there was a previous topic, sorry for being redundant i just couldnt find the right info relating to my problem, ( oh, if there is a tweaking program that reads hardware and gives u ther best config, plz leave a link)

Try getting new drivers from nvidia's website.

Also, make sure you have drivers for your motherboard chipset installed. When I was trying to bench Emily to see if she was sufficient for FFXI, I couldn't get more than 1x AGP and had some other performance problems. After getting some advice (I'm really more CS than IT, so I have to ask a friend sometimes about some of the hardware-specific issues) I got the correct Via Chipset drivers, and was able to set 4x AGP and drive my Vana'diel Bench score from just under 1.5k to just under 2k.

If you don't know your motherboard chipset, check the BIOS startup screen, there's often a string identifying it. Otherwise, you can open your computer and find it printed on the board.

Emily's kind of a budget system, BTW, but it does well enough most of the time. 1.3GHz Athlon, 256MB, Radeon 8500. No idea on FPS, but I've only really had problems in Valkurm and Qufim so far, and those seem to be more network lag than effects issues, since setting quality low and turning effects off has no impact whatsoever. Not to mention, SA+WS from a macro delaying the WS long enough to swing twice seems more like communications problems than problems displaying things.

also, GF6 series r known to have some conflict issues w/ other PCI/PCIe devices. after trying what others have recommended, and if the problem persists, and that u have any PCI/PCIe devices installed, try either uninstalling them (not just drivers, but physically), or moving the slots they r installed into.

WEll, im (very close) to be a certified A+ technician in PC hardware, and i tweak my Vid card all the time, but i never OC. It seems like it might be some driver conflict or maybe the game just has issued with my card. I played world of warcraft for a full year and i never EVER had problems with 40 people on screen, and would pull a solid 30 frames in the most crowded of areas, and let me say, WoW was MUCH more stressful than FFXI ever was ( from what i remember.) Ill try getting the newest drivers from my card manufacturer's website, bu it seems likie every time i get new updates, it reall f*cks things up. Thanks again for the help!!
