error 0x80040707 when attempting to uninstall

I am getting this error while attempting to uninstall ffxi. The game runs fine, POL runs fine, just uninstalling is giving me this crap.

system specifications are:
Windows XP Home (SP2)
AMD Athelon 1.4 GHz
256 MB SDRAM (PC133)

XP is patched to current status as of posting time
Firewall: Sygate Personal Firewall Pro.
Anti-Virus: NOD-32 Anti-Virus System.

I have heard this is a windows error and nothing directly having to do with POL or FFXI, so I think the problem is pretty severe, any help is appreciated.

checked that one already by googleing, but unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be the problem, all registry info appears to be correct. installation itself works fine from what I have seen, it is just uninstallation that is having these problems.
