  • Having Game Control Problems. Please Help!

I have recently had my PC formatted, and had to reinstall my game after it got deleted from my Hard Drive,
However, after reinstalling everything and setting up game config e.t.c. I am now having a bit of a problem controlling my character ingame.

Everytime I open a menu ingame to scroll through it, I cannot do that and choose any options without my character moving around at the same time.

Also, everytime I move towards an NPC, (be it a monster outside any city zones, or an NPC you interact with inside a city for quests, missions or merchants for buying/selling e.t.c) the game keeps selecting it whether I want it to or not.
The purpose here, is supposed to be so that you can select a creature manually yourself, and not for the game to do it for you! This isn't the case with my game.

I originally used the "Logitech PS2 Controller" which was fine for a while, but it was only after I had reinstalled my game that I started having this problem with it. So I changed around and started uisng the "Nyko Air Flo XL" but unfortunately this problem still persists, and has not resolved itself.

Does anyone know why I might be having these 2 problems, and would know of a way I can fix them? It would be really helpful to me if I could.

This is a common issue. Just turn off the analog, move around both joysticks in a circular motion, and then push the analog button again.

And how do I go about turning off the analog?

P.S. - I love your avatar. I think it's rather cool, though it'll have my head in a spin if I watch it all day long. Heh heh.

make sure you calibrate the controller in FFXI config.

There is a button on the controller called analog, it is between the 2 joysticks. There should be a red light that goes on and off when you push it.

All our controllers here are calibrated just fine and we have this issue on occasion. It's just an issue that can't be resolved via the config.

Re: Having Game Control Problems. Please Help!

In FFXI controller config there's 3 calibrations you can adjust for each analogue and direction keys to control the menu, movement and camera. That is the calibration I was talking about. When I switch my controller from PC to lap top, it does similar things described above which I got fixed by calibrating. So I suggested it.

It might be the case where the analogue which supposed to control only 1 thing is trying to control other things too. Like, controlling both movement and menu at once.

Whatever the problem is, just try them all. As long as you can fix it, it's all cool.

It is not fixable permanently. The solution I posted IS the fix. You can not fix this in the config, as I stated before.

Re: Having Game Control Problems. Please Help!

YAYYYY!! I fixed it! Great job hey?
Thanks for the help you guys!.

GrandMom - I worked out from reading your post that it WAS the analog button that was causing my problem. (When you first mentioned the analog button, I didn't have a clue what you meant, but then afterwards you memtioned a button that switches a red light on and and off, and that's when I realised what you meant. Though on my controller, it's called the "Mode" button and this is what switches the red light on and off) But I also found that I had to re-configer it in FFXl Config. I think I have to agree with Jei that the config also had something to do with my problem.

Where there are three options in the Gamepad Settings for "Movement," "Camera," and "Menus," I had to set them all with the red analog light (or in my case, the "Mode" button) switched on. After I sorted this bit out, I then went back into my game and found that everything is now set as it should be.
No more clashing problems with menus and movement..... thankfully!

Okay, now there is still one small problem which I think I would like to sort out, but next to the problem I just had with the analog, it's really quite minor, so I can either stick with it, and work with it, or try and sort it out.

It's just the camera movement. Everytime I move my Joypad Stick to the right, the camera moves to the left, (and vice versa - not sure how you spell that) and when I move it up, the camera looks down. (and again, vice versa)
This one shouldn't take much doing to sort it out I don't think.

Thanks a lot for the help guys. I'm very glad/happy my main problem is now solved.

When you reboot your computer the issue may return, just a head's up.

I think that's a problem with the Nyko pads. On a game I was using one of those with recently left and right on the right analog stick were the wrong way around. Didn't find a way to fix it, sorry.

should be able to fix this in the controller config as well, just reverse the camera controls for up down left right

Okay, I think I will hold you to that then, and let you know when the same problem returns.
                        So far, so good though.
