there's been many many problems with the CD. Theory is that they used cheapy discs when burning this release.

I am currently having a problem installing on my new computer w/ FFXI disc 2 having errors at 59% .

I've installed before and it worked idk.
take it back and get a new one i guess

I just got a new laptop computer, and the game would not install at all on it. I had no problem getting it to install on my home desktop computer at all. So I tried copying all of the contents of the CDs to the hard drive on the laptop to install them. Guess what? I couldn't read all of the 1st disc. The others were no problem. I put the 1st CD into my home desktop and copied it across a network connection to the hard drive on my laptop, and it finally installed.

I thought I would share that for anyone who is experiencing a similar problem and has the resources to do that, because it's worth trying.

You can download the FFXI CD images from here....

Or you can download the entire disks from a FTP site:
<URL removed distributing CD images is not permitted>

After 6 months off FFXI i'm looking into playing again but o not have the cds anymore (misplaced, lost during moving?? not sure).

i still have pol installed and my account (inactive) for ffxi but i need a way to get the cd as i live in new caledonia and getting a new box would be hard (shipping = 50$ or +, long delay, etc...).

That ftp doesn't seems to work, Peterman, is there anywhere else i can get those cd beside filesharing networks (damn too slow) ?

                Thanks

Option A: Make a disk image onto your HDD, mount it in a virtual drive, install from there.

Option B: Use a different CD drive, all CD drives are NOT created equal.

Option C: Call up POL. Remember that these boards arent official by any means, and anytime you have a problem there IS a telephone number you can call.

On a side note: Install new drivers for CD-rom drive (DVD, whatever you have), and upgrade the firmware on the drive. All this can be found on the drive makers website.

Side Note 2: Peterman, those files ARE illegal, because anyone could download them, and only way its legal to have backups of your CDs is if you make them

While I agree that it is a good idea to advise people of the legality of providing CD images, you have to stop and think about how valuable they are to someone who doesnt have a CD key and subscription.

Most of the legal stuff is is there as a protective measure so that people who want to attempt to use their work to make a profit that they have not approved of, cannot, legally. There is nothing to be gained by providing someone a copy of a CD image of a game that is not playable without a CD key and ultimately a subscription. The copy protection for this game is NOT physical copy protection like that of PS2 games, it is the CD key.

So, why bother typing this? I really have a hard time believing that they would want to waste their time enforcing the copyright laws for software that doesn't do anything for a non-key bearer. Anyone who wants to play the game and didn't pay, you still have to buy a key from Square and pay full price. So, again, what is there to worry about again?

                    Flame if you want now,

                    Thanks

What's with reviving year old threads >.>

Though I do see something on this thread that is illegal to the FFXIOnline.com rules. Correcting it now.

I totally agree with this, I've gotten warnings just for hosting the JP POL image and it's stupid. editing DAT files is clearly against the TOS but there is a whole forum dedicated to sharing them. But We can't link people to images of the install disks? COme on now.

Anyone who needs JP pol or has a bad install disk send me a PM and I will upload what I have when I can.
