I would have to say no. At the time 2003 was being talked about in this thread, FFXI was still able to run on Windows 2000. Since then they made XP officially a minimum requirement. (in late 2009?)

Not to say that POL won't check the OS version and understand 2003 or that there is a compelling reason to use 2003 over XP or Windows 7 for FFXI, but what you just said would be like saying it won't run on Vista because SE changed the minimum client level to XP.

BTW, FFXI probably also still runs on 2000 fine, maybe even 98, SE support just won't help you if you have a problem.
