  • JP IME troubles

i successfully installed jp pol, with na ffxi
and can play perfectly fine, but i have only 1 problem, which is the IME input.

on window'd ffxi, i can not write a single line of hiragana or else i get booted and it redirects me to POL viewer
on full mode, the writings come out all distorted and undecipherable, or just come out as ???(question marks)

anyone have advice? any help is highly appreciated

You probably just installed the IME program, but didn't move your settings to Japanese. Go to the language bar in control panel, and go to the third tab, there will be a drop down menu. Set that to Japanese and restart your computer. Then you should be able to type in Japanese.

Don't use a windower with the JP version. For some reason they just don't work. I think SE nerfs them or something.

The newest patch for FFXI screwed up the DirectX interaction code (I'm guessing--I'm a hobbiest programmer) for the IME in the window. Depending on what windower you use, you'll probably want to check for updates.

I personally use Azrael's Windower v3.01, and both work great, although, you have to hack your registry each time you want to switch between NA or JP.

Attached are 2 sample files I use to switch with my setup. I just keep these two .reg files on my desktop, so I can switch fast. All they do is change the file paths in the registry for the key (included is the Tetra Master switch, although, I don't think the windower works with that, I've never tested it). Warning: This is for my setup and my file paths, so you need to edit them for your own setup. If you don't, they will break your XI setup until you do update the file paths (if you're lucky, you might have the same folder names though ^^). Generally, if you haven't edited your registry before, I wouldn't start now.

I only really use it for the window function--although the ambient light generation and gamma functions can be handy for adjustment between flat panels/CRTs or between the full screen and windowed versions.

As for the crash after POL, I'm not sure. The NA copy still works, correct?

            Good luck!

Edit: removed registry codes and url.

Makes sense I guess, could be a change in how the DirectX handled the interaction so it isn't as flexible now. Only reason I can guess for doing that is speed purposes with a side of effect of screwing up the old windower. Either way don't know I don't bother with any 3rd party programs because I just flat out find them to be to high a risk.
