      angmar,

try taking your stick of ram out and putting it in another ram slot. by the looks of your problem i think this will take care of it. Sometimes when you have only 1 stick of ram, it doesnt like the first slot and will make your computer reboot and games crash. please try this and tell me if it helps any.

I have problems with crashes too. It only happens in dangruf wadi however. After ~5 minutes of playing in that area I get a crash..got me killed today aswell and I find it hard to complete the mission in there :/
No other game crashes my computer, so I know there is nothing wrong with my hardware/windows.

I used to have that Problem worse than any other, It would crash at Random times anywhere!, i Reformatted my PC and then it would only crash like 1-4 times a week, after a week or so i checked my CPU tempreture, i was shocked 70+ Degrees C !!!
i went and got a new Heatsink Fan and now no crashing, you might wanna try the same.

              Got the same problem.

My old comp: Ran the game without any crashes (a bit laggy though)

              Duron 1300
              kt7 mobo
              512 sdram
              Radeon 9600 pro

New comp: Got randomly CTD all the time

              Barton 2500+
              NFS-7 rev 1.0
              1024 Twinmos 3200 DDR-400
              Radeon 9600 Pro

I thought mu PSU wasn't good enough to i replaced it with a 400w, still crashes like before, no difference at all.

              I also run the game at 1024 x 1024

I've managed to fix my problem.

Apparantly, this game hogs cpu as any other game. Since I had overclocked my cpu alot it got too warm. I set it back to "original settings" and now everything works fine.

Formated and reinstalled everything, haven't oc'ed anything.

Everytime i got the crash i check the ffxi files and see around 3 files are corrupt... It's the *.dat files in the ROM dirs.

You guys noticed this too ?

God i'm glad i'm not the only person with this problem. ><

Ever since the patch a week or two ago i crash left and right right back to desktop.

I crash just about anytime i'm in jeuno. I'm guessing because it is heavier traffic.

I swapped more drivers for my Nvidia 6800GT OC then I can count ><

I'm on an overclocked 2500+ Athlon XP on a Abit NF7-S v2 mobo. Athlon is @ 2.3GHZ which is ~3300+

I run a Nyko air flow EX USB controller. I guess I'll try unplugging it if dropping the resolution back down to default doesn't fix the problem. I'm currently in the middle of checking my files too.

                      /sigh

                      S1

EDIT: Just finished my file check. I have 3 corrupt files.

                      30.DAT
                      104.DAT
                      64.DAT

my game rarely crashs on me. something i have noticed it do as of late is windows will just shut it down. the game will be gone. an just my o.s screen is there, this hasnt happen while i play. it tends to happen just after i click play, up until after the movie.

the samething has happened with my g/f's computer. windows is shutting it down do to some conflict triggered between the o.s an the games files. 2 computers with totally different set ups means it is the o.s causing it

Not a surprise to find files corrupted after a crash. Question is now did those files become corrupt during play and cause the crash or did the crash corrupt those files. If they became corrupt and caused the crash, then you might want to make sure your HDD is not going bad and that the system is being properly cooled.

If they were corrupted because of the crash well then that's something you can generally expect in any crash.

So far from my experience when I've had this problem occur it's always been something in my system, not once has it been directly related to the network (The closest was from one of Windows XPs upgrades that activated their stupid personal firewall crap I had to disable).

Other then that it's the basics, make sure the Hardware isn't failing. Generally find a test program that really grinds down on the hardware when it testing it. As good physical examination to make sure the cooling system is working right and an internal temperature test too (if the system has the ability). Then make sure the drivers are not flawed (DO NOT GET BETA VERSION ANYTHING for the drivers FFXI will eat those BETA VERSIONS alive).

If all that doesn't work then probably try re-installing FFXI it's possible the recent update installed incorrectly. Not to often that you have to downgrade for FFXI to work, you generally would only have to do that if the new hardware is right at the peaking point of what the rest of the hardware can handle (In most systems the peaking point is like hiting the Beta range, and like the drivers FFXI eats Beta anything alive).

Other then that I wouldn't know, that's generally the routine I do with any program. So far with FFXI I've never reached having to re-intall it all again yet. A good word of advise, if you upgrade your system it's not unusual for some programs to become buggy as a result of that. Some programs in an attempt to optimize themselves to your system will scan your hardware and adjust certain settings to match it. So were some settings work great with some hardware it'll be paralyzing with other hardware, so don't be surprised if you have to re-install some programs after upgrading your hardware.

Well I had a friend check his files. 100% OK. So i had him send me the files that were corrupt on my PC. I'm 100% OK now.

One of the files was from the ROM3 directory which is the models directory. This could very well be the reason for crashing if the game was trying to load a corrupt model.

Guess I'll find out soon enough. ><

2 computers that have been running the game fine for months finally crashs, an not to long after a new set of patchs? maybe in all the dowloading for service updates in the transfer the files became corpupted, understandable til i check both systems.. not 1 problem.

also around that time new microsoft updates became available. so maybe we are seeing a conflict between the o.s, an the games new set of patchs. i know from past when i had updated my drivers, some programs began to run crappy.

as for running hot. nto likely. i have the normal fan on the motherboard, 2 more fans placed near the vid card, an another one placed near the hd. im also running a 550 watt psu. with its own manual setting to speed the fan up, or slow it down. so i dont know.. it could be numerous things.
