  • Would SE Ever consider Resetting high tier item quests?

It has become apparent in the length of my time playing this game,as well as many others, that the earrings recieved from the Z14 Adjunct Quest "Divine Might" are becoming obsolete. Many of the older players, including myself, whom have had their earring for some time are no longer happy about the earring choice. This is mainly because of the changing dynamics of the game. So I was wondering if SE would ever consider making the DM quest resettable, or even make the earrings tradable to the spot in sky that summons the NPC.Your thoughts and implications of this situation would be appreciated.

If they did, there would have to be some serious limits to it to avoid abuse. Its a good idea to allow it somehow though.

Personally my biggest item gripe is the limited charges on some one-time or near-impossible to get charged items, but I'll make another thread about that some time.

I'd actually like to see this happen for AFv1s, since AFv1+1s are level 74 only. Maybe make it a quest where you say (read: lie) to an NPC about losing your AF and having to get stuff to make you a new set.

You already can request AF pieces by paying 10k to Vingijard in Lower Jeuno (H-9) so long as you don't have any currently active AF quests.

If you check the AF quests info on various FFXI pages, you see that the quests are repeatable after AF is complete, so that you can replace the ones you lose when upgrading.

Oops, Task beat me to it, sorry.

Re: Would SE Ever consider Resetting high tier item quests?

In that case, it seems likely that it wouldn't be *technically* difficult to reset Divine Might and Apocalypse Nigh to be able to redo them and choose a different reward. Promathia missions should probably be doable too, if they want to.

Whether or not SE would want to allow that is anyone's guess (and probably why this thread was posted here). I see no reason not to, though, as long as the restriction of one at a time is preserved.

I think requiring the mission/quest to be redone (which is already the case for AF) would be sufficient by itself to prevent "abuse" - nobody's going to leave in the middle of a long HNM fight, run to Jeuno to reset PM8-4, go kill Promathia, run back to Jeuno and come back with their new ring to rejoin the fight still in progress. (Even if they did the impact on the fight would be far less than if they went and changed jobs and came back, and SE didn't have any problem locating four jailers and AV within a short walk of Safehold's nomad moogles.) Travel time alone would make abusive back-and-forth switching nearly impossible, never mind the number of other people you'd have to drag with you to do the boss fights.

So even if this were implemented, I expect it'd only be used if new equipment made the previous choice obsolete, changes in the battle system made a previously disregarded choice more attractive (e.g. the +shield skill DM earring and the last couple years' changes to shield mechanics), or someone planned on permanently retiring their previous main job in favor of a new one.
Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses
            RDM90, PLD90, DRG90, COR90, SCH90, BLU54
All Nations Rank 10, ZMs & PMs Complete, AUMs Complete, Captain, Nyzul Floor 100 (5 Weapons, 4 WS), Medal of Altana, WotG Mission 15, 1/3 Addons Complete, 9/9 Abyssea Main Quests, 6/6 Caturae

Ooh, forgot about that. Safe to HQ RNG set when the time comes then.

Not much else for RNG to do from Limbus after Gunner's Mantle and Jeager Mantle, so what the hell. HQ that. Most Limbus armor seems to compensate for the jobs that got nothing in sky, which seems fair. I guess Boxer's Mantle and Loquacious would be decent for COR.

I wasnt really calling all the earrings obsolete, I just know that the earrings such as the Beastly and Knights earring are pretty much useless. Old school Bards and Paladins choose those so long ago that they are pretty much useless to every situation. The only thing Knights is good for is Aegis or a hard core Shield+ setup. But even with the setup the earring would still Limit PLD in todays game setting which revolves around,For PLD, staff tanking and TP burn parties. As for the beastly earring goes, It is no longer of any interest to Bards, only BST. So they are only obsolete because the game dynamis have changed so much. I dont think they should be replaced I just think that the quest should be a one time resettable ordeal for the older players who now have an obsolete earring.

Re: Would SE Ever consider Resetting high tier item quests?

I haven't staff tanked in years - staff *kiting*, maybe, since you can't block an attack from behind. But face to face earth staff is obsolete, even assuming no EX gear like Aegis or Hauteclaire. More importantly I would never even consider choosing equipment like this based on TP burn. What would be the point? The monsters are so weak you could practically go naked and get 10k/hr. High end equipment choices should be focused on high end content, not merit parties. And for something like Gomory (Dynamis-Xarc monk NM) I would definitely want the +shield, while suppa would be useless crap in 90%+ of endgame PLD situations. Get something that doesn't interfere with tanking gear for your DD set, like brutal/assault.

(What I *actually have* is abyssal, because I hadn't even leveled PLD when I did DM the first time, years ago, so I chose what would be useful for my only high level job, RDM. +shield is far better now than it was then, too.)

Yea I want a suppa,But not for tank purposes,Mainly for My NIN.I have yet to use the Knights earring and Ive had it at least 2 years. As for Staff tanking on PLD goes You can straight tank on staff I personally like Spirit Taker for the MP.The only way you can get that through sword is with Chivalry which potentially can be better. I dont have hauteclaire or aegis so the -dmg is not fathomable. I would never wear suppa on PLD even in xp i use +hp but i hardly ever XP on PLD anymore.I still think the idea of resetting DM would be a good one because I know alot of brds who are unhappy with Beastly earring as well as PLD's who do not like Knights earring.

I heard that they are making more earrings for the ToAU section, but I doubt they will cope to the DM earrings. Anyone else hear this? If so any speculations on what the earrings will be good for? (No I'm not referring to assault earrings)
