  • How does S-E measure FFXI's economy?

Since (U.S.?) players will always find something to complain about the economy, Square-Enix must employ more objective measurements of the health of the economy than player feedbacks in order to determine if FFXI is running well.

Would it be possible for S-E to provide some insights on which economic statics are gathered and how they are used? Also, would S-E mind releasing some of these info, such as charts of:
    • Inflation Rate (over 1 year period)
    • Per Capita Gil holding (over 1 year period)
    • Per Capita Net Worth (over 1 year period)
    • Monetary Velocity (over 1 year period)
    • Total Gil in circulation (over 1 year period)
    • Aggregated Auction House Merchandise Value (over 1 year period)
In addition, I would like to request no economic data breakdown by World, in order to minimize the chance of spurring world migration requests by players and RMT's alike.

Oh, this type of information would be extremly interesting to get ahold of. Seeing each server's economical development would really be exciting.

Although all the information you are looking for is not available there, I find the information listed on ffxiah.com to be invaluable, you can see market trends and server ratings, information is only collected from Jeuno AH's but gives me insight in to health of the overall server economy and graphs and compares all servers over time and against each other. you can even cross reference individual items prices from server to server.

Actually, I'm against exposing economic data for individual servers. =/

        I want:

        A) To understand what data S-E uses to gauge the economy, and how they use it. (i.e. If S-E sees trend X, they would consider implement which mitigation measure Y...)

        B) To have S-E share some of these nifty data with (somewhat nerdy) players like me.

Also, I actually don't care what the inflation rate is, as long as it's not a big number (positive or negative)--but, it would be neat to know how it has changed over time. Same goes for most data, which is why I asked for lots of graphs over time.

Judging by the number of people who read this thread, though, my sentiment is distinctly in the minority. It's rather doubtful this question would ever be selected. T_T

"spurring world migration" how often does this happen?

I think it's happened 3 times so far?

But they're talking about open server migration soon anyway, so...

It doesn't happen yet, but SE stated they are opening that they will allow character transfer in the future. So having data like server specific economies could have a negative effect over all.

I would however be interested in a statistical overview of FFXI economy. Things like how much is sold through bazzars, total gil in circulation (average across servers), and various infor like that.

Would be interesting. Perhaps have a new system too, like FFXI stock market. Invest in various vanadiel shops and their outcome based on conquest and various economy variables. Would be fun I think.
