Well, after reading a lot of stuff about how easy this NM is to solo Sleep/Nuke or DoT/Kite style, and growing ever more anxious for my Vicious Mufflers, I attempted to solo this NM today.

    Bad idea.

Hmm. Maybe activate ES before popping? Although the resist rate looks like it would still kill you once you started fighting.

Unless you just got really unlucky, or were accidentally casting sleep with your apollo staff on lightsday or something.

Or it's also possible that the people who said it was easy were all lucky, and said it was easy because they won it first try.

I have to admit, I don't quite understand the excitement anyway. Don't 90%+ of BLMs already have zenith, morrigan or goliard, all of which are clearly superior? Are there that many SCH75s? Or are DRKs going for them to swap in for absorb spells and Drain?

      Taken from FFXIClopedia:

-Soloable by RDM/NIN or BLM/NIN using the kite method around the mountain in bottom right corner of (J-9). (Gravity not needed typically, he casts absorb spell any time he is near you)

I would try this method if you haven't already. You can dot him to death, cast small nukes, etc.. Some mobs just can't be slept when you fight them, so you need to kill by other means.

Off-topic: If you can, I would forget these gloves, IMO. You could easily get them from some linkshell who claims fafnir (which end up getting dropped most of them time, unless there are new blms to the ls) or off of Genbu. Plus zenith mitts give more MP. Morrigan's cuffs are out there too, but that requires a little bit more commitment.

Depends on your job. Zenith might be better for BLM, but totally unavailable to DRK and SCH, HP > MP swap would gimp Sublimation for SCH anyway. Perhaps not by much, but it irks me to lose max effect anyway.

That's true. I just assumed from his sig that he wanted them for his black mage. Maybe he's leveling SCH though. I dunno. <.>

Yeah, I'm leveling SCH. Right now it's only 25, but I will be taking it to 75. I don't have Zenith/Golliard, thought I've been trying to get them for a while. I figured that I didn't need two sets of MAB +5 hands though, so I was just going to get these instead...

Well, Goliard and Morrigan combine MAB with macc, so you'll want them whether you have vicious mufflers or not. Except that SCH can't (presently) use them - it's anyone's guess whether SE will eventually ease up on the insanely tiny amount of high level gear available to WotG jobs. (New gear, if it's added at all, will probably be added to new *and* old jobs, and not really help.)

Well, obviously if I get either of those, yeah they are way better then Vicious Mufflers. But for the time being, I was referencing I would rather not spend 380k for +50 MP from Zenith.

I thought Convert HP to MP gear did not count for Sublimation...

Food doesn't count toward sublimation, gear does count.

When Sublimation is activated it takes the Base HP you started with and ticks down based on that, so you're wearing HP to MP gear and activate it, it takes your base HP with that gear on. If you change gear around while Sublimation is active, its still going to account the previous value.

This is what makes my wary of using things like Astrals, Electrums, Penitent's Rope and the like, its going to all add up and, in time, hurt your returns on Sublimation. It might be SE intended SCHs to look into HP gear to enhance thier returns that way instead.

                      Re: Bloodlapper

Wow, horrible piece of luck there. That being said, my BLM friend and I have successfully sleepnuked the thing twice, as well as seeing a full party use a sleepnuke-like method. It's far from impossible; it's just not 100% reliable. As such, it's better to have someone with more skill behind their Sleep IIs do the sleeping part.

Has anyone tried Lullaby/Repose on the thing? -- Pteryx
