  • question about the campaigns

I know im probably gonna be ripped on for asking this but do the storys from the original FFxi and the various expansions activate by playing the missons from the diffrent nations or is there something else. I know people are going to tell me that i need to search for it because it is on here somewhere, but i have already looked and i cant find any actual information.

Yes, the story is played out through missions. You can find out more information about that at http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Missions

        Re: question about the campaigns

There's continuity by story, but not always by access.

To start the Zilart Missions, you must achieve rank six for your nation and zone into Norg. To get started on CoP missions, you must be level 30 and zone into Lower Delkfutts Tower. To start ToA missions, you must do the quest for boat access to the Aht'Urghan Empire from Tenshondo in Lower Jeuno.

After that, however, there are no real strict mission requirements. You can progress through Rank, RoZ, CoP, ToA and WotG independantly of other missions. So you don't have to finish to Rank 10 or beat Zilart to start doing other expansion missions.

That said, storywise FFXI, Rise of the Zilart and Chains of Promathia are considered a trilogy storyline. Ranks 1-5 are FFXI's original story, Ranks 6-10 came with RoZ and tell the story of your nation. Rise of the Zilart picks up where Rank 5 leaves off and has greater implications into the CoP storyline.

Treasures of Aht'Urghan's story is fully independant of other storylines, save for a little Great War referencing.

As for Wings of the Goddess, a lot of the backstory found in FFXI, the Rank Missions in RoZ and the AF questlines introduced in RoZ are going to be fleshed out here. You'll see heroes and events talked about in the the other missions/quests here. There are also some ToA links to be found within the story interestingly enough.

If you're a story purist, you may wish to go in sequence, but there's not much stopping you from expansion missions in any order you wish.

            Re: question about the campaigns

Guess I'll quickly toss this in:

Assault Missions aren't story-based, but you need to be at least 50 to do any of them and even then most players don't want to do them unless everyone is 75 (because people are either too chicken to try them or too lazy to keep level cap gear around). You can level cap some Assaults to include friends, but the option eventually is removed after you get a few ranks in.

Campaign Ops have no story to them, either, but can actually be done as early as level 9, but you can't get EXP from them before level 9. Some of this content - such as Stock and Awe, Vanguard-X, Crystal Fist and Street Sweeper is doable by that level, but Offensive, Defensive and Intel missions aren't adviseable as the mobs you will encounter within them are high level. Campaign Ranks can also expire, so you may wish to persue these missions at a higher level so you can maintain these ranks more easily.
