Re: Introducing the BG-Wiki
As a lot of people have been saying lately..."Say anything other than "BG IS SO GREAT OMG GUYZ!!!" or "YOU DARE GO AGAINST INFO ON BG!!?!?" You'll get flack for it."
It's interesting they decided to start their own wiki...even though all wikis eventually have the same information.

Re: Introducing the BG-Wiki
But having that content deleted and the user temp-banned from posting more is. Apparently it's not an idle threat so I assume they'll stick to their guns and prevent copypasta...at least while it get's up and running.Originally posted by Feba View PostSaying "do not copy content" != content not being copied.

Re: Introducing the BG-Wiki
And even then, the BG forums section for new & novice players is extensive.Originally posted by Ziero View PostI don't think it will be elitist based, so much as endgame and mathmatically focused. Skimming over the thf guide I found it to be somewhat...painful...to read as it's more of a scientific text with calculations mixed into basic descriptions with no real flair to it. And despite the incorrect info(PD works on ranged attacks) and monotonous tone of the guide, it's not very elitist. Though it does seem to focus on higher lvl activities. (the lvling strat mentions lvl 33 in the first sentance)
It seems this will be best used by experianced, long time players as opposed to the newbie friendly, easily accessible info of the FFXIwiki.
I won't say it beats us here though.

FFXI wiki is a great source, I find it stupid that people are abandoning it, just because of the stupid incident. BG wiki will be run by BG, aka elitist info that should not be in a data base, if they can prove that they will really leave that out, then thats cool, but I don't see that happening.
The reactions I got, just shows how much people need to not overreact, about things that happen on the internet.
to show my sign of piece, check my sig. I will advertise both Wiki and stop further BG bashing

People tend to take offense when you come in the less then a day after launch going bg sucks, telling people their work sucks. You are the one who came in here with an issue.

Re: Introducing the BG-Wiki
The point of a Wiki is that anyone can add or amend information in it. If you think something looks elitist, then go change it! I certainly will be; I did it on FFXI Wiki..Originally posted by Kailea View PostBG wiki will be run by BG, aka elitist info that should not be in a data base, if they can prove that they will really leave that out, then thats cool, but I don't see that happening.
Actually the reactions you got were because you chose to insult the intelligence of others because of your judgment of their personal decisions regarding both FFXI Wiki and BG Wiki. The reactions I got, just shows how much people need to chill out, about things that happen on the internet.
If you expect people to chill out over that, it's just not gonna happen. If you called someone a mongoloid in real life, just for saying they read a certain magazine over another, they'd probably react much more strongly. Why would you expect anything less than the response you got here today?
Edit: Let's leave it at that. Lock this thread please.

Re: Introducing the BG-Wiki
Kailea, STFU. Nobody wants to hear you (or anyone else for that matter) bitch just for the sake of bitching. If you don't like it, don't use it, simple as that. Let them have their wiki if they want to.Originally posted by Kaileablah blah BG sucks blah blah

My guess, they were creating the layout and coding for the actual page as well as creating a decent working format to use and make it presentable with little to no bugs as possible. The whole point of a Wiki is user provided content, so now that they're telling us it's open the users can provide the content.Supposedly someone has been working on this for some time. It does not take that long to set up the system and application so what took so long?
BTW, I don't contribute to any wiki or the like about any game I play because I don't know enough to make any worth while contribution. I can however see when an 'announcement' of availability is nothing but a joke.
Why choose when you can make use of both? I'm just glad the BG wiki isn't blocked from my job, now I might be able to do some FFXI research again while on break.Originally posted by Kailea View Post
Then why not post that information yourself to ensure it's validity and prevent any elitist ranting about the topic.Originally posted by Kailea View Postthats the problem, thats what BG-wiki is going to turn into
heaven forbid a DRG to sub anything other then /WAR or/SAM even though DRG could sub anything but BST or PUP and be a decent DD + support.
From my understanding, all the RMT money the FFXIwiki guy bought happened *years* before this incident. As such are highly unrelated. If it was then there would have been more recent transaction records. As such, I still don't see the FFXIwiki guy as being evil or 'bad' in any way nor will I villify him or his site due to his transgressions.Originally posted by Olorin401 View PostBetter is a matter not only of opinion, but also of facts.
If you mean content, just about any website with FFXI info is going to be better than BG-Wiki is right now since it's still under construction. Even this one.
If you mean using donations to initiate the RMT of accounts off Ebay, well then I guess that depends how you feel about RMT.
Seriously, why did this topic even turn into an argument? If you don't like BG or it's Wiki then just avoid it entirely. Whether it fails or not shouldn't matter as you would have no part of it. Me? I just want any and all of the damn FFXI info I can get my hands on and the more options I have to get said info the better.
