With more experience, K.O.'s will be become less and less frequent and you will exp faster, as you'll learn to avoid danger and find preys and tactics which give better experience points per hour.

Leveling my first job from Lv.1 to Lv.6 was painful, and took a few days. Last month, going from Lv.1 to Lv.6 (on a different job) was done in one setting, with no resting for HP or MP.

You will get better as time goes by. ^_^b

White Mage is my favorite support job for use with Red Mage, but many swear by Black Mage.If you have more questions about Red Mage, I would encourage you to look around
in the Red Mage forum and do a few searches.

This is true. I intentionally didn't mention that as it won't help the OP in his/her current situation.

With hHP effect on Signet, it really isn't all that necessary to have Selbina Milk in the early levels, so I didn't mention it. Last time I bought a stack, I ended up selling it on AH (for profit) without using any.

I guess it still be recommend to tanks during Valkurm Dunes or even Qufim Island levels, though, so thanks, Lyonheart, for the reminder.

lol, I was amazed no one mentioned it in the first page and a half.

Selbina milk has been my choice of cheap healing for lowbie leveling. It's 50 to 60 gil each if you're in the nation controlling Zulkheim, and could be that cheap at the cooking guild in Windurst otherwise (though it could spike to a very high price of a bunch of others are also buying it up at the guild).

So that's 60 gil for 40 HP, compared to 50 HP from a Potion, which could be considerably more expensive, especially when buying them from NPCs. Not to mention that milk stacks while potions don't.

Milk restores your HP gradually (it gives you 1 HP every 3 seconds over the course of 2 minutes). So it's not an instant-heal emergency item like Potions. The key is to drink the milk at the start of a fight, since you know you'll be taking some damage pretty quickly anyway.

Selbina Milk's usefulness starts to wane after level 10 or so. I still find myself using while soloing at level 25, but that's mainly because I'm soloing worms from a distance, and the milk helps offset the DoT from Rasp.

Delay is 60 delay points per 1 second. There are some spells, gear and effects that can reduce this, but you won't start seeing those until much further on.

Actually, there *is* a cost effective way to heal yourself faster, but you don't have access to it yet: set a healing job like WHM as your subjob.

If it bothers you that much to spend time resting, you could always level WHM or RDM to 18 first, finish the subjob quest, then come back to WAR as WAR/WHM or WAR/RDM. (Those are solo setups only - in parties you should go WAR/MNK - at least until you have some extra jobs to choose from - and have someone else heal you.) WHM and RDM will usually not have any trouble getting into parties without a subjob, and later in life it will be very useful to have at least one of those at level 25+, no matter what you intend your main job to be (which you might change your mind about anyway).

One more thing: if you're going to join parties as a WAR, bring along an axe and shield in case you're going to be tanking. Shields do make a difference.

Re: Noob question - Better way to heal?

    Skillchains....where to start....{hmmm.}

Let's get this out of the way first, due to it being only semi-related. As a war, you have two weapons that you have a great degree of natural "skill" in. The Great Axe, and the Axe. As a war, your going to want to be keeping both of these leveled. For the moment, the Great Axe is your other best friend. Your best friend is the White Mage. :wink :

Every weapon has several "skills" associated with it. You'll gain these "skills" as your character levels up and you gain skill with the weapon that you are using. Skill chains are formed when people in your party use these skills in a specific order within a predetermined amount of time. If it's done correctly, the weapon skills will combine, giving you specific elemental damage. ....so, weapon skill "A" + weapon skill "B" can combine and create something like "detonation". Creating a skill chain = extra damage to the mob = more mobs at a faster rate = experience points chains = leveling your character faster.

Hopefully, your early levels will have a blm in there(love for the blm's...) who knows/figures out how to Magic Burst a spell for extra damage on top of the damage that your Skill Chain provided. ....while related, that's a different story all together.

I still have a very new status on the board here, and can't post you up links for weapon skill charts and skill chain charts, so unless someone would be kind enough to provide a couple of quick links, you might wish to google them. The weapon skill charts are straight forward. The skill chain charts, while a bit daunting at first, will become much easier to read with time.

*Thanks Ita. I can't provide the information that you did.

Why does it take so long for me to swing? I just counted it took 8 to 10 seconds on some fights for my next swing. Why?
