  • Which Stats For Which Jobs?

I'm always forgetting something like this.
Could someone please give me a quick rundown on which stats (str, agi, int, dex e.t.c) are important for which jobs?

For WHM, I bought an Opal Ring ages ago, but I just found out this evening (by someone very helpful in-game) that the CHR+1 on it was only useful for BRD, and something else which I cannot remember right now. (this was what they told me that CHR was used for) They said to find items with MND and MP, and that mainly, these are the only important things for a WHM, not that DEF seemed very important either. Those are the things I'm looking for wearable gear btw and not the weapons right now.

Could I have a list of the stats which are important to all other jobs too please?
For e.g. for THF, I presume that is DEX, but I'm not sure if it would use STR too or not.

Just need to know them all really, so that I can sort out which ones I need to use for the jobs I have.

Sidenote : WHM has gone up a level. Need to change sig.

Re: Which Stats For Which Jobs?

To tell you the truth I'd get a pair of every level 14 and 36 HQ rings.

You'll use em all while leveling subs and sometimes you'll use most of them on a single job according to the situation, specially if you like using equip macros.

And you also gotta consider HP and MP sets of gear.

Edit > There's some reference about job/stat, but it's waaay too situational to list it all.

Re: Which Stats For Which Jobs?

Could you please be specific? Please point out which job(s) you're currently playing or plan to play in the near future and we can go from there? And I'm assuming you only mean primary stats and not secondary? (such as attack, accuracy and defense)

Here's a basic run down though I guess...

WAR: STR, VIT (for break WS)
MNK: STR, VIT (shoulder tackle and a few other WS, Chakra) MND (Chi Blast)
THF: DEX & AGI (for SATA) and STR
      WHM: MND
      BLM: INT
RDM: MND and INT (depending on race, more of one than the other)

      PLD: VIT, STR
DRK: STR, INT/MND (some scythe WS use MND, but INT is for other WS and spells)
      RNG: STR, AGI
      NIN: AGI, STR, DEX
      BRD: CHR
BST: STR? CHR (for charm only)
SMN: MND? (No primary stat is of particular importance to summoning magic)
      COR: AGI, STR
BLU: Depends heavily on the spell being cast, but generally STR.
      DRG: STR, DEX
PUP: STR? I really don't know much for PUP
SAM: STR, AGI (for ranged attacks/eva/parry)

Doesn't INT help elemental ninjutsu? There's a reason NIN/mage use Crimson Blades before staves, isn't there?

Yes it does, which is why NIN/BLM can work for some situations.

I thought it was more for Magic Attack Bonus 2 than the INT.

Re: Which Stats For Which Jobs?

              General rules:
              - Every melee DD needs Attack, Accuracy, STR, and benefits from Haste, +Weapon Skill, and +Store TP.
              - Every caster needs +MP to a limited extenct, and benefits from Refresh effects, +Magic Skill, +hMP, and +Fast Cast. Although a rare stat, Magic Accuracy also helps any caster that needs to cast an offensive spell that may be resisted.
              - Tanks in general benefit from +Enmity; Most casters benefit from -Enmity.
              - "Blood tanking" (i.e. tanking taking hits) needs a certain degree of Defense, and benefits from +VIT, having a shield, and +shield skill (if the shield applies.)
              - "Blink tanking" (i.e. tanking with shadows) benefits from Evasion, Evasion Skill, and Parrying. However, only high-evasion jobs (THF/MNK/NIN) can use +Evasion and +Evasion skill and yield significant results against mobs close to or higher than your level.
              - Physical WS depend primarily on Accuracy (to land all hits,) Attack, and STR. However, WS are affected to a minor extenct by other stats (usually called "stat modifiers") and when doing SAWS on HNM, especially one-hit WS (since SA will get rid of the need for Acc,) many DDs will try to squeeze in stat modifiers in slots where they don't get STR/Attack.

              Job-specific:
WAR: A Defense build for when grabbing hate and shadows are down. Not enough Eva to make it worth equipping when blink tanking. +Ranged Accuracy for shooting status x-bow bolts.
THF: DEX and AGI for SA/TA (and only for SA/TA) respectively. +Ranged Accuracy for shooting status x-bow bolts. Evasion for soloing. Normal gear in all other situations.
MNK: Against some NMs/HNMs, +MND for Chi Blast
WHM: +Cure Potency, MND for White Magic
BLM: +Magic Attack Bonus, INT for Black Magic.
RDM: +Cure Potency when healing, +MAB for nuking/MB'ing, INT and MND
PLD: In addition to Def/VIT gear, some +Accuracy and +Attack when tanking (both to kill the mob faster and to get hate better) and a set of pure DD gear for special situations. Haste has the added bonus of cutting down on Flash recast timers.
NIN: Gears like a melee in most EXP parties (both to kill the mob faster and to hold hate.) INT and MAB for the Ni line of elemental nukes. Haste has the added bonus of cutting down Utsusemi and Ni nuke recasts. A set of Evasion gear is important for solo or special situations.
DRG: In EXP, gears like a melee. Solo, +HP, +MP, and +Wyvern HP to maximize Healing Breath effectiveness and a certain degree of Defense.
DRK: Gears like a melee. Rarely needs casting stats, though +Dark Magic skill helps for Drain/Aspir/Absorbs. Like PLD and NIN, Haste has the added bonus of lowering the recast on Absorb-TP and other useful spells.
RNG: +Ranged Accuracy, +Ranged Attack, +STR. Noteworthy to point out that RNGs get twice the benefit from STR as a normal melee. +MND for Holy Bolts. Ranged Attacks not affected by Haste nor Slow. Every 2 AGI is 1 R.Acc much like every 2 DEX is 1 melee Acc.
SMN: +Cure potency, -Perpetuation cost, -Blood Pact delay. Refresh also has the same effect as -Perpetuation technically. Obviously, +Avatar Attack/Accuracy helps too.
BST: +CHR and +Charm for Charming, melee gear otherwise (though to a lesser extenct when solo; taking hate off of your pet is bad if you're not /NIN.) +MP and +hMP gear swaps help when /WHM. Needs Defense gear swaps for emergencies (they WILL happen.) A shield and +shield skill help too.
BRD: +CHR for offensive songs, +MP for /WHM, HQ instruments when possible to buff song effects. +String Skill, +Wind Skill to boost song effects and accuracy.
SAM: Mostly a normal melee. They do use certain amounts of Store TP gear to reduce the number of swings needed to reach 100 TP, though. Ranged accuracy becomes important when going /RNG.
BLU: Normal melee gear, STR and Acc specifically for physical spells, MAB and (usually) INT for nukes, +MND and Cure potency important if going /WHM for main or backup healing. +Blue Magic Skill is a very multi-purpose and useful stat.
COR: Ranged Attack/Accuracy/STR for shooting. +MAB for elemental shots.
PUP: Melee stats, lots of job-specific items to get the most out of your automaton.

I think that just about covers it.
I thought it was more for Magic Attack Bonus 2 than the INT.
They need both. Since the Ni nukes have lower base damage and rely on constant spamming rather than spike damage, each point of INT is valuable and adds up quickly.

Re: Which Stats For Which Jobs?

Hmm, "base stats" matter less than skill and the smaller stats that are based on those base stats.

Example: Warrior finds more use from Attack and Accuracy usually than he would STR and DEX.

Go on FFXIclopedia and look up all of stats in the game. That'll be enough to educate you on their uses and which jobs need them. Don't stop there, look up everything.
