(Unplanned uncapped events will have some of the same problems anyway - "I just joined this merit pt" or something similar.) Do yourself and your linkshell a favor and plan it for next Tuesday (or whichever day works for you), or join/form a static that does PMs on a regular schedule.
And until SE agrees with *you* and removes level caps from everything, some missions can't be made a joke just by throwing 75s at them. Do you really think that there would be any challenge to Ouryu or even Omega & Ultima without level caps on them? They'd be as easy as ZM4-6, or even easier.I don't think you are understanding my point, I have nothing against level caps (save for all the freaking muling involved in the process of getting ready for it), if it was planned beforehand or not is irrelevant since you gotta waste time muling regardless.Originally posted by Legal Fish View PostIf you can't live to part with some of your gear from level 75, maybe avoiding challenging capped fights is a good idea.
You can hate capped areas, but to say they are any less of a challenge because they cap you is ridiculous. For one, the game is most balanced at level 60... any PvPer can tell you this.
And they are quite necessary too. There is no other way to make a progressing storyline aimed for players of multiple level ranges without players just using high-level help to go through them.
My problem is with all the "level caps made fights more challenging" nonsense. There's overpowering food and gear at all level ranges and I gotta say in all my time playing level caps have done nothing to up the challenge. Any capable party can win any fight fairly easy, it all comes down to having a good strategy and capable players to execute it.
So using caps as a cheap excuse to justify why a BC is difficult doesn't work for me.
As others have said, level caps make it possible for players who haven't reached higher levels to enjoy the content with what they have in terms of gear and job levels, that's the point of level caps, to make it accesible for lower level players to participate.Originally posted by Karinya View PostPlease define the difference. Do you really think CoP wasn't designed for non-75s to be able to participate in it? (before the last couple chapters, at least) And how are you going to arrange that without level caps or ZM-style blowouts?
It also gives people some room to play with job options in cases like Promies, since you can level any job to 30 fairly easy if you need to fill a role your main job can't fill.
But, adding level caps just to gimp players by not allowing them to use whatever gear is that they have is what doesn't make any sense to me.
It is gimping you though, and it's an unnecessary waste of gil and room (once you take the set out of storage), I'd rather have better options to manage and store gear than doing something as pointless as it is buying full sets of armor just for the sake of storage.Originally posted by Kailea View PostThe full sets of most gear are made to work together, so having the full set for a capped fight, is not "gimping" you all that much, it is why the sets where made to begin with.

Re: New FFXI Expansion
When do people ever throw 18 Lv75 blms at anything anymore?

Re: New FFXI Expansion
I agree, CoP could not be as challenging or fun with uncapped everything. It would be just like most everything else.
"Hey lets just throw 18 lv75 BLM at it" This is not fun, funny but not fun at all.

Why? Maybe *you* should be the one to solve your inventory space situation.Originally posted by Raydeus View PostI already told you that doesnt work for me, you gotta try harder to solve my inventory space situation.
You can "store" some gear on the AH, too. Especially during deflation.
Anyway, as long as the level capped event is planned a few days in advance, muling isn't that much of a hardship. (before the last couple chapters, at least) And how are you going to arrange that without level caps or ZM-style blowouts? There's a difference between specific level aimed content and level caps nerf style.

Do you really think that there would be any challenge to Ouryu or even Omega & Ultima without level caps on them? They'd be as easy as ZM4-6, or even easier. If what you really care about is challenge for yourself, and not about telling other people they gotta play your way, then yes. At least until SE agrees with you (and adds lvl caps to everything) it's the player's choice whether they want to fight at full capacity or handicap themselves for the sake of challenge.
