I believe their point was about having to re-earn fame.

Still, quests should reward EXP, but not that much.

already noted at what his point was but he also wanted gil to be an choice so i decided to do out the math for him. And if all quests rewarded exp you could buy your levels.

I've personally thought that missions should award XP but not quests.

Salary system was a system I hated so much in FF8. And I will hate to see it in FF11.
Oh well, not that I *can* see anything in FF11 anyway.

i would fully agree if they wernt repeatable even agree with quests, but only if doing them the first time. otherwise I would have millions of exp from the bat wing desk.

To quote cheesey sci-fi "Danger Will Robinson Danger!"

As a casual gamer, well maybe a bit more than casual but not much, I myself don't really like the idea of free xp. If awarded I could take a job, say RDM, and level it to 60-ish without ever buying a scroll or learning what refresh is if I understand your proposal properly.

If our desire is to make gil more readily available to the lower level player base, without dramatically affecting inflation we could... make crystals worth more to npcs which would reduce the volume available in AH, and since crystals are a fairly large portion of the new players income source they would get a better return. Or have crystals not-drop on any mob lev say 60+. Which would drive the costs of them up on AH.

But I don't really agree with the free xp idea, I mean we already have choc runs and eco-fights for that no? The choco quests have some good restrictions on the xp reward, repeatabillity and are available to anyone with a choc liscence (lev 20). And as I have never done the eco-thing I can't really comment on it.

                  Re: Purposed Salary System

For a new MMO, cool beans. For FFXI, impossible.

I seriously would've just enjoyed an FF8 Online.

Even people who don't like 8 can enjoy the setting very easily. 3 Gardens to start from (Trabia rebuilt or simply in a prequel), lots of missions that send you all over the world, lots of towns with a unique feel to them, a salaried mercenary... and most importantly: a good mix of technology and magic, the way a FF game should be!

Boats with helicopter blades attached to them... pshht aren't they supposed to be steam powered too?

                      FFVIII Online :D

That sounds nice...and yea, it's easy to get the setting and basics just as you described. I would've really liked that too, VIII is one of my favorites.

Well, this salary thing sounds nice...just too easy to abuse by many people, and the rewards are too great. How about something like...a yearly thing? But then data would have to be tracked non-stop...so that might mess things up, I dunno. It's best to just avoid this all together and earn your stuff like you have all along. :D

One thing though, is getting paid...say in Imperial Currency based on yoru Assault/ToAU mission rank? I think that'd be cool, like once a Vana'diel month, you go visit Naja and she pays you.

Thanks to Roguewolf for the sig. :D

This is a good idea but if you understand the point the op was trying to make, he wanted to use this as a way to get focus back on the main lands

Wow, a forum with people that actually liked FFVIII. I thought I was the only one that liked it.

I just hated the main characters and story. Laguna subplot, Triple Triad and the Junction system were the reason to play.

I don't think the system would work well for FFXI. I would agree that Missions should entail some kind of EXP reward for completing them, but its something that's probably too late to change.

Yes, so those of us who have completed missions (which is most of us, I would gather) should get XP scrolls in their delivery box equal to the amount that we deserve for having completed the missions.

Haha, yeah right, it would never happen. It'd be sweet, but never happen.
