Would anyone be willing to donate to fight RMT?

I've been thinking, a lot of FFXI sites nowadays use google AdSense for revenue, or they just host ads directly from IGE. Pretty much anytime you see AdSense on an FFXI site that hasn't been configured to not show the ads. But, what if some legitimate sites started using adwords? Obviously most of these sites need revenue and not expenses, but that's where my idea came in. If I were to start a fund (using paypal I suppose) to pay for ads for sites that try not to support RMT (ffxionline.com, of course, ffxiclopedia, possibly even random FFXI blogs), if there'd be any interest in donations, or if it would all be out of my own pocket. I figure this woud drive more traffic away from RMT, and possibly help newer players find a place to contribute and learn how to do things, instead of just using cash.

I am more than happy to donate to a FFXI site that I find helpful. However, I would only donate to that site directly. I mean no offense, but I don't know you and would not just hand over money in the confidence you would spend it how I see fit.

Obviously, a system like this does have holes, but would I really bother scamming on such a small scale, considering i've been around two or three years now? I don't care to ruin my reputation anymore than anyone else. I'd come up with more complete descriptions (which sites, how much on each, etc), but right now i'm more interested to see if anyone would be interested in contributing to a fund such as this in the first place than if anyone would trust me.

I think a Gilbuyers Anonymous organization would work better.

Stopping the disease treating the sick sick gibuyers with care and electroshocks is the way to go.


Seriously though, getting people to donate is kinda hard unless you have as many payment options as possible, specially for people outside the country where the site is based.

Wiki seems to be having troubles raising those 12k they want to keep the site running.

I don't think anyone would donate to Feba's fund, but donating directly to sites to stop RMT advertising would be a good thing.

The thing is, a lot of these sites don't seem to want to take donations, unless they're suffering for bandwidth.

I wasn't expecting it to be a popular idea though anyway, which is why I asked first =p

Which is a good thing. Because then they aren't beholden to anyone else when they want to make changes.

and the reason why some sites might not do it is because paypal can be a pain sometimes (from what I hear)
