    I think you are right, in principle. However, I would like to submit that going through all of WoW's content for both sides shouldn't take more than about 1 year (rough estimate). Players can hit 60 in a couple of weeks. Actually getting the drops for tiered armor takes time (especially if you rolled a popular class).

    At least they don't have mount raising in WoW. I'd be curious how you would "raise" the mechanical raptors and felsteeds, tho :p

    I guess a chocobo egg being imported to WOW then being horribly vandalized doesn't concern me too much. I loved the shot of joust to whoever posted it. I felt a bit of nastalgia seeing that.

    True enough although I suspect since Wow is easier to level and has a better instant gratification factor this increases their number of imature gamer percentage also. Some of my friends play WOW and some play FFXI so I know the entire playerbase is not composed of asshats, but I have discovered they tend to be very visible when they pop up.

    I fear that in this instance Grizzlebeard you make yourself look foolish. Telling someone they have no right to hold an opinion because they disagree with you is realy disapointing in an otherwise well thought out post. Arguing he's misinformed is one thing telling him he's not allowed to comment is truely repugnant.

    I'm sure if we looked hard enough any MMO is going to be listed as a yes for the casual gamer since at least in the starting points it doesn't take much time. Building to endgame in any MMO not just in FFXI or WOW is usually where the time sink gets bigger. We're not really required to spend more than casual time, but buildup takes much longer if we don't.

    FFXI seems to me to have a refined color palette. The designers of FFXI always seek to make things fit in to the world they have created.They take an idea and bring it to conclusion, whereas WoW has always seemed to me it takes it's ideas and gets them to the good enough stage and then they are done and onto the next thing.
    In it's simplest terms
    FFXI = Esthetic design philosophy
    Wow = utilitarian design philosophy
    This is what I was thinking. I never really looked into WoW, but now that I see the two together, it strikes me how visually pleasing a game FFXI is.

    Heh heh, I guess I havent been missing anything.

    Is that image really a good representation of WoW art? Ugh. It's funny, everyone I've talked to about WoW has raved about the colorful, stylish graphics (I've never played it, or even seen screenies til today). That image is not my idea of stylish graphics. I think I'll stick with my beloved FFXI.

    It's like impressionism vs renaissance period works.

    Didn't say NASA's rockets, I was reffering to a set of NASA's new concept designs for a new spaceshuttle. One concept design was very pryamid like in shape.

    Ehh, true. What's next Egypt sues NASA for developing a spaceshuttle that resembles a pyramid in shape.

    Cactuars would be in that "little more" area, as they were created from a random doddle. Even then you can see where the inspiration for it come from.

    Umm, cactaurs are unique from what I recall.

    In short, I don't see what the big deal about this is. Besieged was added after SE took a look at Lineage. I don't see anyone here bitching and whining about that. ToAU has borrowed so many elements from current running MMORPGs, it's not even funny...
    Like I said which you cut out. I've seen this concept done on a MUD called IceAge which I played back in 1994-1999, way before either one of them ever did it.

    WoW art is really a polar opposite of FFXI. Where FFXI is very realistic with fairly muted colours WoW leans towards a more overly fantastic feel with very vibrant, and sometimes sense-assaulting, colours.

    Here is a listing of existing WoW mounts. I seem to recall the same hysteria over the mechanostriders being rip-offs of chocobos over two years ago. To be fair, whilst I agree the mount looks similar to a chocobo they've pretty much covered every other kind of riding beast so far and a riding bird was inevitable. The big difference with this is the player will be able to buy one and use it whenever they choose for as long as they want without having to visit a town or crag.

    This is the dumbest thread I've seen in a long time here. No, they are not copying off the Final Fantasy series. The Blood Elves, at least thats who I think has the mount, have mounts who are bird based, like a flying Phoenix. However, in WoW, flying mounts come much later. So what do you do? Riding a bird that can walk fast, not fly.

    The entire Final Fantasy series has done little more than reinvision thousands of mythological and real life concepts. Nothing comes to mind of what they've actually created from raw imagination. Not even tonberries. The most popular traits of FF might have came from the fact it was a limited version of Dungeon and Dragons for NES.

    PS.

    It goes both ways.

    Besieged was added after SE took a look at Lineage.
    Lineage did not create the idea of a settlement of some kind being attacked by an enemy faction. This has been around since the dawn of man. SE could of you know... lived on earth, and decided that they want to have wars in FFXI. A 5 year old boy from the 1800s has the potential to 'create' the basics of Besieged.
