can anyone please give any links to good webites with good race and job guides , as ill be starting some time next week and unshure what char to choose .... thanks

As far as race selection goes, I recommend you just pick the one that looks best to you. The difference in stats between races is negligable in 90% of the time, but having an avatar you don't like might significantly impact your enjoyment of the game.

For job selection, it's cool to read up on all the different jobs and think about what you might like to play, but there's not need to overanalyze and plan out your character ahead of time, either. It may be that you get into the game and find out you really don't like that job's playstyle, or that the job combination you picked doesn't work as well in practice as it does on paper. Unlike some other games, changing jobs doesn't involve starting over. You can do it whenever you want in your mog house. Imo, the best way to pick a job is to try out a few of them first.

I'd say level Warrior first. It's a great starting out job, and it compliments Samurai very well.
