I completely agree. Even with a high demand job you'll be looking at long time to reach 75. Granted you could skimp on equip, food etc to save money but then you run the risk of being labelled a bad player and you won't receive invites.

Endgame in FFXI is a strange thing, there are those that say "the game starts at 75" and others that prefer the journey. The rush to 75 has tainted alot of the playerbase and people are now reaching it faster than ever but they miss so much on their way. I for one enjoyed the carefree days where you were able to try new things and venture out into different areas for fun. Now everyone wants a cookie cutter party that levels in one specific zone from x to x level every time.

Maybe its just me but I think people who play with the sole intention of reaching 75 and participating in endgame don't make very good players. A player can aspire to this but still relax, enjoy their journey and explore the world.

A well travelled, experienced player who takes his time to be the best he can will always be better and more welcome than a single-minded xp-er.

Also...End game turns people into (insert cuss word here). It's one of the reasons why I'm avoiding on leveling my red mage. <_<;; Also End game = shit ton of drama.

Final Fantasy XI is a slow game if you try to rush it. Things can happen much faster if you take your time and make friends along the way. SE has done very well to make it an imersive experience, something that I didn't find in World of Warcraft.

FFXI isn't about end game, but there are activities there for the players that want the best equipment. It's currently inhabited by gil sellers, normal players, and players who think they deserve more from SE. It can be quite a dramafest, but the stakes are pretty high.

There are no raids in FFXI, and instances are usually confined to a single battle arena. Dynamis is probably the closest you'll get to raiding, and I found it pretty enjoyable. It's largely a team effort and you get a lot of face time with different players.

Missions are what really set FFXI apart from other MMOs. You'll find a lot of the plot content in missions that earns the Final Fantasy title.

OK. Bought the Collection on DVD and I'm updating right now.

I guess I'll be hume. That was my favorite race when I played 3.5 years ago. Back in the old days, Ragnarok was THE server to get on. But things are different now, I'm sure.

Any particular server I should be trying to get on? (any world passes available?!)

All of the servers are essentially the same. A couple have higher economies than others, but for the most part? Same old, same old. If you have a particular server in mind, I'm sure getting you a WP would be no problem. But if you don't, then whatever server you're randomly placed on should work.

Raids in FFXI are normally called tours, But as was said here. Why Rush to "Endgame" when it doesnt exist. The Game is meant to be played as such. enjoy it from level 1-75-merits.

I don't really get the endgame thing, but that's me. Just try to enjoy all the little things FFXI has to offer. I know I do, that's why I still play, most endgamers I know who started after me quit before me, cuz they forced themselves to run out of things to do. Just have fun mate.

The end-game does exist, don't overdo it.

Good luck trying to find people to do Garrison, EFs, and Eco-Warriors. The game isn't what it used to be. I heavily suggest you go as slow as possible to level 75. Also, don't suck at the game. When someone tells you subbing SMN is stupid for a WAR, or that you don't need MND rings on a BLM, they are not being elitist, they just want a good party member worth the invite.

I could totally go and buy a WP for Bismarck if you're interested. Economy's not bad, most of the people are pretty nice and easygoing and I could hook you up with a linkpearl for a shell that helps out newbies.

Yeah i miss the old PS2 days. People would pt to have fun and there would always be some1 doing something, wether it be eco-warrior, missions. Now all i see is drama or RTM selling stuff. On Alexander my gf spent 10 hours shouting for help with her cor af hat. Back in the day shouting for a hour got you help from like 12 75s.
End game content is really weird tho. It seems to me for the most part compeating for HNM or running Dynamis "like endgame raids in wow" with uber hard bosses and the relic gear, and cursed gear from HNM. Tho like the others have said thats a long way away. Tho iv never played FF endgame iv heard alot about it tho i did play WoW endgame they seem alot dif outside of dynamis

                      To the OP :

The biggest difference I see with wow end game and FF end game is when you can do it.
In wow you can basically enter an intsance and do your stuff right ? It's far from beeing the same in FF, you have either to wait some days after a said event to start another or have to compete against others players to have the "right" to fight the monster you are going after, witch said mob only spam like once a day/week ( yeah one mob for 10 000 players every week ).

To tell you the true I'm giving WoW another try right now as FF end game frustration easily makes me bored.

I ended up on Shiva. Level 8 warrior atm. Character name is MOGL. Can someone hook me up with a linkshell? I'm already starting to feel a little isolated.

                          Happy Hunting!

BTW, a lil' off topic, but when BC xpac hits, are you going to be one of the many who will reroll either of the two new races just to hit up a shammy (as an alliance) or pally (as horde)?

I don't get the general mad dash. Man, I'm not looking forward to BGs when they will be flooded with shammies and pallies. -_-

                              Re: End game content

I'm currently in virtually the same boat as the OP; I play WoW and raid the top endgame content (BWL, AQ40, Naxx...we stopped raiding MC a long time ago, even on alts) and am finding thats all I do now in game...raid. I've started to think that instead of burning out completely on the game I should take the time I'm sat in Ironforge being spammed with gold requests or getting a lockbox dropped on me to open every 10 minutes and try out FFXI. I've had a look around and the game seems vastly different to WoW in many respects and thats where my hesitence stems from...

Firstly, both my raiding characters are primarily damage dealers (Rogue and Shadow Priest) and I enjoy this style of play, I'd like to be able to play that style of character if I decide to sub to FF. Which jobs would suit this best?

The actual combat system doesn't seem as free as WoW's. Anyone who's played both fancy giving me an idea of how they compare?

The amount of people actually playing kind of puts me off. How populated are the servers? In WoW I can join the dreaded "LookingForGroup" channel if needs really must and join a PUG to anywhere (I said I could, I didnt say I do ), yet FFXI seems to have a problem with finding a party so fast.

In wow you can basically enter an intsance and do your stuff right ? Just to reply to this. In WoW raid instances have a reset time, meaning that you are locked to the instance during that period (A week for 40 man content, less for 20 man) and not only can you not join another party to it that isnt started by the raid leader who started the first one you were in, but if you return in the same party any bosses you have killed will still be dead.

As for the second part, the closest thing you'll get to that in WoW is outdoor raid bosses such as the Emerald Dragons or Kazzak. These are camped by alts and as soon as they spawn (usually once a week after maintenance) they tend to have a few different raid groups fighting over them.

I never got all that far in WoW, but the combat system felt relatively similar to FF's. I only got to lvl 12 during beta though, so I'm no expert. As for the other questions, there isn't really any central over the top damage dealer. All the DD classes can put out some very respectable numbers if geared for it. Dealing damage comes at a price though. You'll spend quite a bit of time looking for a party unless you have friends around the same level. I'd recommend starting the game as Monk if you want to do damage, then switch to warrior and go from there. At 30 you'll have a nice sub for any physical DD class and open up a bunch of options at the same time.
