  • Try Something New

This idea spawned from me participating in a Garrison tonight. The premise is simple. Try something new, then tell everyone about it.

    Garrison... Wellp...

I banded together with 17 other people of all level ranges in Jeuno after hearing a shout. There were people with rank 2, people with weird names (See: Omfg), people that were experienced, and people that didn't even have telepoints.

We teleported there. Our setup was approximately 5 tanks, all melees had voke as well, 4 Whms and a few other jobs.

After waiting a REALLY long time, we started.

It was havoc. People were lagging, 18 "Trader" NPCs were swarming goblins one by one, and I frantically tried to cure the traders.

After this 15 second torment was over, I thought to myself, "Well, that was easy. I wonder if the other waves are like that?".

    They were.

After wave 4, we collected the drops... A few Mannequin parts, Dragon's Chronicles (One of which went to the one person that died) and then 2 Military Harps and a Military Gun. That's 4 Million +, easily.

We did 2 more runs, none of which were as good, but we got another harp. I ended up with a Military Axe worth ~170k. Other got Mannequin parts, and other Military equipment, but all in all everybody got something worthwhile.

It was fun. Except, next time, I take two parties of close friends, and we split the drops.

Try it with two parties. There's info on FFXI encyclopedia.

in theory, you could even solo them if you're lucky. I know NINs are supposed to be able to solo the 20 cap, I suppose 40 cap would be good too. RDM would own if there's any 75 cap ones (Terrigan?), and would have a decent chance of soloing a 50-60 cap I imagine.

      Re: Try Something New

Our ls does garrison runs as social events, and we've been sticking to the lower lvl capped ones so that the newest players get to know everyone and can still participate. They end up being the most disorganized and chaotic events I participate in, and hands down some of the most fun I have in the game :-) The fact that you can get some nice drops is just a side benefit, but I always look forward to any garrison events that we have planned just to get to know people a bit better and enjoy the mayhem that comes with it!

Sidenote: I also think it's a great way for players with more experience to help educate the newer players understand party dynamics and all the other finer points of ffxi... so it's like a double win :-)
