Yeah... I gave up on the Joy-toy a while ago and have kept busy doing other things since... I might revisit it sometime soon. Back at 75 cap, I couldn't camp the fucker like I was supposed to and expect people to be there to help. Now I'm considering just always checking as I log out so I can additionaly check if he's up when I log in. I got so tired of people telling me they wouldn't tell me the ToD even after they were all done. What is so difficult about doing that? Write down some dude's name and send a message. It's just asshattery.

I had no problems getting mine. Heck, I got three other people in my shell their Joy toys too. It isn't hard to swing by, kill the placeholders and check the repops before you settle in for a long night of fishing.

I maintain that devotees of fishing in FFXI are crazy people. YES I SAID IT.

But yeah, getting ToD isn't too difficult.

Ok, I'm going to say it, I'm surprised anyone goes after Joyeuse any more.

Other than Almace, what would be the chase item for swordsman?

I can see where having a level 70 sword you can use before Almace or other OAT swords would be useless.

It's still invaluable for COR who arent dual wielding.

                      • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

Agreed Ketaru... that's pretty petty and immature.

We had a RDM in NoIdea that was obsessed w/ subligar. The biggest goal for him was to get Vir Subligar. That is all he worked towards. It's a fairly useless piece of gear but very expensive. So many people would mock him about it in /l. Yes, I thought it was a waste, myself, but I never lowered myself to mock him for his choice. Now some of his suggestions on how to play my job, I'd politely disagree with but that's about it. He finally got his tremendously expensive panties and soon after left FFxi having fulfilled his criteria. People can play how they want as far as I'm concerned. Seeing someone else's goals stray from the usual, "Must be the leetest EVAR" is pretty refreshing.
Even so, this game is actually so easy to play by your own rules, it is a wonder to me anybody resorts to insults in the game regarding how others choose to play. On another forum, they briefly talked about "retarded rdm melee", and you know, I really do take that personally, even if I'm not directly participating in the discussion and try my best to keep what I do unobtrusive.

No, really. Here's how easy it is to not join somebody you don't approve of:
                        - With a flick of his finger, a party leader can remove a party member that he doesn't want in the party.
                        Or
                        - With a flick of your finger, you can leave a party that you find unsatisfactory.
                        Or
                        - With a flick of his finger, a LS sackholder can remove a LS member that doesn't play up to a desirable standard.

It's that easy and options for booting make it all possible. But that's too much for some people. They'd rather stay in a party that they're going to whine about in LS because they would sacrifice principles for meager amounts of EXP. They're rather go to a forum and whine about the "retard" they had to group with today, instead of simply excusing themselves from the party (or, if they're the leader, simply booting the "retard")

People act like they were forced to play nice with some gimp. No. Bullshit. You weren't forced to play with anybody. You could've left. But you're so desperate for whatever it is you want, you're willing to join up with somebody who clearly has a different ideology from you instead of finding a group of like-minded individuals.

Same reason I still carry around and use Soboro at 90... it's fun. I like seeing my character seemingly defying the turn-based structure.

We have a guy in SWN who just got his soboro. It's fun to watch. I'm thinking of camping that myself... just to help me reach GK cap faster. Scratch that... for some reason I remembered it being SAM/NIN... but it has come to my attention that it is SAM exclusive. (sad face)

                              Joyeuse
                              Damage Per Second: 9.38
                              TP Per Hit: 6%
Occasionally (read: a whole bunch of times) attacks twice.
                              Damage: Piercing
                              -----------------------------------------
                              IGNORING Almace

                              Khanda +2 (Damage 29+19 Delay 252+12)
                              Damage Per Second: 10.91
                              Occasionally Attacks Twice

                              Khanda +2 (Damage 29+26 Delay 252)
                              Damage Per Second 13.10
                              Double Attack +10

                              Or there is

                              Shamshir +2 (Damage 54 Delay 230)
                              Damage Per Second: 14.09
                              STR +9 Attack +20

In short any number of magian weapons out class Joyeuse, not just Almace. The DPS for the two Khandas is not taking into account multiple hits, because I'm lazy. Joyeuse has a higher DPS if they never attack more then once.
