GUIDE.


Because i'm bored, here's a quick guide to getting your Altepa Gate Crystal.

[Use ffxi-atlas.com to help with this]
-Go to bastok
-Go to Bastok Mines.
-Go to the Zeruhn Mines on the west of the map
-Once in Zeruhn, follow the path straight until you get to a gate
-Talk to the Hume next to the gate, and go in [Note: If you did not properly install/register your RISE OF THE ZILART expansion, you can not pass through]
-Behind the gate, run over the bridge, and follow the tunnel until you zone.
-Korrloka Tunnel;
Here you have two choices. (There is a third path, but it's not worth it)

Quick and Dangerous

-Once in korroloka tunnel, just follow the main path forward.
-You WILL need sneak/invisible to get around the Slimes and Gigas

Slow and safe

This is the path I used to take my RDM2 on to get to rabao
-In the first open area, go in to the tunnel on the left
-Follow the tunnel around until you're on a ledge in the main tunnel, and cross the bridge.
CAUTION: Whenever you cross over a bridge, be very careful there is not a Gigas looking at it, as they CAN aggro from below.
-Follow the path on the right side, and take the first tunnel going to the right.
Go through this room, you'll come out on a ledge, keep following that path, there's another way back north.
-Once you're in this room, be VERY careful. I don't remember if it was the fish that aggro or the crabs, just stay away from the puddles, as far as you can. Or put sneak on.
-After you're back in the main tunnel, check the area below you. If there are no Slimes or Gigas, just jump off the bridge, and head west. If there are, cross the bridge, get as far west as you can on the ledge, then jump off and run.

Eastern Altepa Desert - Consult ffxi-atlas.com on how to get to Western Altepa
-In West Altep, head north to get to rabao, again, chek ffxi-atlas.
-once in rabao, go Northeast until you get to the Auction House tents, once there, look between them to find the map dealer
-buy all the maps you can, especially The Kuzotz Region
-get a chocobo, and, using Ffxi-atlas, find your way to the crystal
-Dismount, click the crystal, and you're done!

It's really not that hard to get. Still, if you have bad luck and you're running through Korroloka, you suddenly have about 200 new Gigas friends who want to love you in creative new ways. Never really minded helping people get their crystal, though. Kinda fun to go through there as a high level and dice mobs and look cool.

If I join a party and someone doesn't have it, I'm more than happy to escort them to the crystal so they'll have it in the future.

But I don't insult them over it. Some folks don't even realize it's there. I mean, they should, but that's another issue altogether.

I got all of the gate crystals (including Vahzl) at 20 WHM.

Hehe Vahzl mustve been scary as 20Whm xD I might try it with my new char that low lol. I usually just try to find alternative lving spots if someone doesnt have the crystal to save time as the couple of times I decided to wait for them to get it, with escort, they ended up taking 30+ mintues

At 40, it's annoying if someone doesn't have the Altepa crystal. But I can deal with that.

But at 60 and not having them all? Do you have any idea how many times I've had to show a lvl 60 to the Yhoator crystal? -.-

I know a WAR31 who has it. I took him out to get it while helping him with NIN unlock. I figured why not, Altepa is just around the corner.

Agreed. Same with folks who want to do Genkei 2 and don't have Vahzl. (Although to be fair, I think that's when a lot of folks take the time to get it, so that may not be reason to gripe.)

Vahzl is orders of difficulty harder to get than Altep, however. Everybody should definitely have Altep, but Ranguemont's easy, Beaucedine is ENORMOUS, and Xarcabard is simultaneously high-level (a 55 can easily die there) and the map is tricky to get (I never see the Humus for sale on AH, strangely).

Yhoat's another tricky (and seldom-used) telepoint, if only because of how bloody confusing the jungles are to navigate.

So that one I can understand, but the benefit of it FAR outweighs the difficulty getting it (particularly with people who set HP in Whitegate) - tele-vahzl and outpost warp to home city. 2-minute journey, no warping around and waiting 10 minutes for airship.

But as a WHM I'm pretty much obliged to have it. I'd feel really silly being able to send people there but not go myself!

For me, Yhoat was more of an annoyance to get than Vazhl, but I knew the northlands like the back of my hand, whereas I try my best to stay out of the Jungles as often as possible.

Same here, I would prefer to help someone over belittling or ostracizing them.

Recently did so with a JP nin that was the only tank we could get for out pt at the time. He was San'doria and we asked him to meet me in Jeuno on my whm. He spoke very little English and didn't understand very well so we had a hard time communicating. (Ya SE your translator isn't that great! But thats another story!) So I met him there and Tele-Altep'd and no crystal. /sigh So back to Whitegate, back to Rolanberry, back to Jeuno, and Tele-dem. He was so apologetic it really made me feel bad. ; ; So I dem him, go to Gusgen, go to Oldtown, escape, go to Bastok, go to Zeruhn Mines, go to Korroloka, and FINALLY get to the crystal. He requested {map}{map}so off to Rabao too since I had to change anyways. All in all it took a long a** time to get that all done but I was glad to do it for him and he was happy beyond belief. The bad thing was there were a few tanks sitting by my pt seeking for quite some time during it but no one had the heart to leave or drop him for another! So on with the killing and 3 mobs into it my replacement came so I could go do LS events. Yep....I got 3 mobs worth of exp! /sigh LOL

I have a friend that has a Jeuno mule for this exact purpose. It's pretty neat.

However, unlike some people, I actually need to go to Vahzl at times, and I surely don't have the patience or time to level a mule to 42!

I'm actually leveling a Taru BLM mule on the side. Generally when I get tired of LFG on my main, or when I need a break from LS chat or something. I'm not going to use him as a tele-taxi, but I suppose I could.
