Re: In the year 2000: FFXI style.

It's not so much a matter of suddenly dropping a bunch of players. The fact of the matter is, that they aren't making it for the PS2 anymore, and they aren't making PS2's that can support the HD anymore, and eventually, somewhere down the road, the PS2 players are just going to have to move to a different platform or stop playing. Bottom line.

....so it just dawned on me that only one person so far seemingly understood the topic title and made a post suited to it's apparent intent >_>

So, in accordance to that long long running gag:

In the year 2000, there will be a civil war between North Windurst Waters and South Windurst Waters over who's shops are more useful. Upon an escalation of the conflict North Windurst Waters will secretly buy weapons of mass destruction from San D'oria while South Windurst Waters buys it's own weapons of mass destruction from Bastok. These two zones will then unleash their arsenals upon each other turning Windurst Waters into Windurst Puddle.

Going on the adopted topic of this thread...

PS2 can't continue to be supported forever, infact as soon as Sony dropped support for the hard-drive I think SE should have dropped support for PS2.

However most of the JP players I know are PS2 players, but they should be migrating across to the X-box 360 now I assume, so who knows.

It's only the PS2 holding the game back in terms of various things right now - for example having a bigger mog safe, can't be done because of the PS2 memory restrictions - it simply cant handle it.

Re: In the year 2000: FFXI style.

Most JPs, from what I hear, hate and despise Xbox in all it's forms. Here when they were flying off the shelves upon release, there they collected dust.

As stated before most JPs use the PS2, support for the HDD and old PS2 is still popular there, and both are still highly available. They also have FAR more HDD friendly games there then we do here and much more online capable games. There's even other PoL games available there as well.

Just because it's not supported here doesn't mean all support should be dropped for it. I have a feeling when PS3 is released SE will *slowly* start to phase out the PS2. At least a year or so after the PS3 release is when they will *start* to cease their support.

Sony basically screwed SE over in NA by cutting the HDD support and classic PS2 sales out.

            Well, hey everyone, what's.... up....?

My thread! What happened!? Holy Cow Crap Batman!

They'll pry drop support, but who cares? Not like they'll lose anyone. Guess what! You can transfer your account to your computer! Wow, cool huh? And guess what! The Comp version only costs like 50 bucks, so it's cheap too.

Well I know most of us don't have the money to buy a new computer, but anyone who really cares will find away. You don't necessarily have to buy a computer, just a graphics card and maybe a few others.

PS3 Support? That would be asinine. Image SE, Sony and a PS2 player sitting in a room together.

Sony, "You wanna hear the good news or the bad news?"
PS2 User, "The good news I suppose..."
SE, "Too damn bad! There ain't no good news!"
Sony, "Woah there lacky, don't want to scare our slave."
            PS2 user, "Yeah, ok..."
Sony, "Well, we dropped PS2 Support for FFXI--"
            PS2 User, "Asshole."
Sony, "--But, we gave the PS3 support in it's stead."
SE, "Money money money moeny money."
            Sony, (Slaps SE) "Silence!"
PS2 User, "You expect me to go into dept becuase you jerks think I'll buy a PS3 just for FFXI?"
            SE, "DO IT!"
            Sony, "Well.... yeah."
PS2 User, "Burn in hell. I'm going to Xbox."
Sony, (Ears burst into flames.) "My god, my precious, precious ears!"
            (Microsoft comes in.)
Micro, "Welcome to the darkside, my child."
PS2 User, "Later, Sony. Goodbye forever."
(Microsoft and new Xbox 360 player leave.)
SE, "Bwahaha I always win. I wonder what Nintendo is up to."
"Oh, you ca'n't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're Mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be", said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Welcome to Alice in FFXI =P

Like I said, SE would rather have your money.

They could care less about graphics, and in all honesty, neither could I, FFXI is still fun.

But yeah, Xbox sells like ass in Japan.

Re: In the year 2000: FFXI style.

I have a feeling when PS3 is released SE will *slowly* start to phase out the PS2. At least a year or so after the PS3 release is when they will *start* to cease their support.
SE didn't drop support for Windows 98 until a while after MS put it in EOL status, by this time I doubt there were that many still using 98, and SE dropping support doesn't mean it doesn't run but that they just won't test if 98 works right or answer your questions if you call for technical support. So they have in reality never dropped any base platform because nothing has ever changed, they never required their customers to go out and buy something else to keep playing the game they pay for. There is a better chance of the PS2 never being phased out as a supported platform and there never being a graphical upgrade to FFXI. If there was going to be a major upgrade to the engine it would have happened already with the release of ToAU and the 360. It didn't. The PS2 is the main platform that FFXI is run on, there are more people that use it then PC and XBox combined; it's not going anywhere any time soon.

                  they need male Mithra.
You might as well ask to play as Beastmen too, as it fits in with the world that has been created just as well as playable male Mithra.

I would play a Yagudo monk in a split second.

Worm is obviously not a Beastman, but it's still an amusing image. I'd probably play a Quadav or a Yagudo though. Not an Orc, however. As a Sandorian, I am honor-bound to hate everything about all Orcs forever.
