Re: Things you learned the hard way.

~Resting on a hill minding your own business can be a bad thing at times. Example:

Telera and Valdir (lvl 11smn and drg, respectively) sitting high up on a little hill in La Theine, just chatting and relaxing before going back to the mobs. Sunny skies, a nice breeze. I have my camera turned more towards the right, ogling my love in his armor. (:p j/k) Suddenly, he just falls dead.

In panic I stand up and prepare to summon Shiva to my aid, when I turn the camera to see the biggest Battering Ram I have ever seen in my life. I manage one little squeak of fear before:

Telera has been defeated by Bloodtear Baldurf.

    o.o

According to Val, who was watching more towards the Valkurm zone area for Orcs and whatnot, it popped nearly on top of us. x_x Most unpleasant.

~Every BLM that casts Bio after you cast Dia will always claim "I have a 75RDM on another server and SE made Bio and Dia stackable 2 updates ago." (for 2 years I've been hearing this and it's always 2 updates ago. Luckily they stop argueing with me once I demand a link to the update.)

Re: Things you learned the hard way.

So I love Al'Taieu. I leveled all of my jobs out of the dunes before the expansion. I would run from the dunes to the crag and pass through Al'Taieu to Tavnazia. It was a quick way back to civilization. Now there are these cute things called Hpemde. If you don't have sea I'll explain. They follow you around like little puppy dogs. You can enfeeble them at will as long as you don't do any damage to them. As long as no damage is done to them they won't attack you back but will just follow you for a while until they get bored.

So I was leveling SMN in the dunes and was making my trip back through Al'Taieu as usual. I learned a couple of things.

#1 A Hpemde following you around like a lost dog counts as 'aggro'

#2 A level 18 Carbuncle can't hit XP mobs to save his life but his accuracy will improve remarkably when trying to save you from a friendly level 85 mob in sea.

                  Got three:

                  1) Hectaeyes aggro to sound. Who the heck decided that, I still think I was right about Invis and Hectaeyes are just one big SE glitch.

                  2) Back in the day when people still rode the boat from Selbi, running from Sea monk down to the lower room will make you more enemies quicker than anything else.

                  3) Blue means bad in Sky. On my first trip I was one my own and was so excited that I made a zig zag path down the center hallway (if you're taru you understand excitement = running around like a fool) so I get to the end of the hallway and every golemn thing there smashes my 60ish whm. /sing The more you know!

Re: Things you learned the hard way.

Oh yes then there's the fact that sneak is forced off when you use treasure/coffer chest.

About a week ago I was making some mythril ingots late at night and I get a tell from one of my friends. He told me to get to Garliage Citadel ASAP, because him and 2 others were going for coffers and they needed by the banishing gates, and they knew I needed the coffer there too. Luckily I had that exact coffer key on me (pure luck right there, man). So I warped to Whitegate, got myself to Jeuno, and got myself to Garliage as quickly as I could. We got past the banishing gates ok and found the first coffer. Of course, the starter of that party (Apathy, a long time friend of mine) got dibs on the first.

It was late at night and I found out that the coffer takes at least 30 mins to respawn, and I was sleepy. Another guy in the pt was tired too. So we decided to log out right there and meet back up in the morning. But first he showed me the places that the coffers could spawn past banishing gate 2 (where we were at) and I marked them on the map. We said good night and logged off.

I got on real early in the morning (didn't sleep too well) and decided to find the coffer and wait for him. I found it all right, and it had a Tainted Flesh right next to it. At first I decided to just wait and let him have it first, but then later I figured that it would be best to use it then so that we wouldn't have to wait too long for it to respawn.

With sneak freshly recasted I quickly ran up past the tainted flesh, traded the coffer key, and got my warlock's tights. Unfortunately I didn't know that when you use coffers or chests your concealing buffs were forced off with no warning. Weeeeeeell that tainted flesh looked at me, I looked at that tainted flesh, and I nearly peed my new pants. I had no choice but to warp out, the guy was a PLD and I just knew that a WHM wouldn't be running past me anytime soon, at least with any intent of raising me AND killing off the tainted flesh.

I felt so bad, I was doing /sea all ino for about the next hour until he finally came on and I told him what happened. At first he misunderstood me and thought that I hadn't gotten it, but when I told him I did get it he was like "oh, it's cool then."

I asked him later if he got it and he said no ; ; He waited four hours and a JP party came in and started camping the places so he gave up. I still feel bad about it....

Re: Things you learned the hard way.

After 20 deaths at level 60 bst alone, mostly non-exp related, I decided to play it safe and get to 61. At 63 now and have only died once or twice since.

A few of the deaths were exp/spider web farming "techniques", which mostly involved spider v. spider, getting the exp and killing the pet quick. Okay, that wasn't a good idea. Greed, yes. Another thing is that it is definitely not a good idea to try to charm a mob in the middle of a linking group. Also trying to kill aquarius as bst60/whm a few times. This can be done much easier with a /nin sub, however.

Oh yes then there's the fact that sneak is forced off when you use treasure/coffer chest.
This was one of them. 4 knight crawlers is a little much for 60 bst to handle.

The first one to come to mind right now is... when doing AF coffers, you must be the job of the AF quest to get the AF gear from the coffer.

                          Was BRD, had Eldieme Coffer Key in hand, opened Coffer, got 7k gil instead of BLM AF. Had to farm another key. ; ;

First time I saw a cactuar in altepa, I had heard about the dreaded 1000 needles. I checked the cactaur, it read easy prey. I thought...hmmmm lets try. So, after getting needled to death, i went outside and lit my cactus on fire. That is all.

When I first started playing FFXI I didn´t have any notion about Agro. When I started to explore West-Sarutabaruta I got Agro'd by a goblin, I remember being angry at that moment (while ko'd) because I didn't do anything to justify the goblin attacking me.

I also remember using Stonega on the secret beach in dunes and hitting 3 pugils with it. Everybody in my party wondered why the pugils started attacking, luckily they zoned (while I was ko'd) and when they came back I had figured out what happened. So in party-chat I said something like: "Note to myself, never use stonega when there are several mobs around". Then my party members finally understood what happened.
