i got another dune pt story... i was lvl pup, lvl 14 and i had /war cause my auto was mage and was doing good soloing i get a tell for a pt from a pld and i didn't pay attection to the sub. i get to the dune and get into the pt, there is only 4 people, 2 rdm, the pld and a blm, no biggy... he gets a blu and says we are killing crabs, get a good camp and the blu pulls the first mob. the pld doesn't voke, i have to voke or say bye-bye mages. So I creamed after about 10 mins of trying to kill this damn crab. i asked the pld why the hell he didn't voke and he said "Why, you are the tank, i'm PLD/nin." WTF?! i just said forget this and HP.

/sigh... saw him the next day as a nin/pld in the dunes again

Re: The Worst PT Contest! *sign up today*

Hmm, not really the "worst pt," but considering it was a session of my set pt, which worked very well together and always got great exp, it was a horrid pt.

          Anyway, our set was nin65 thf65 drk66 rdm65 whm65 brd65

The drk had just gotten spinning slash (he got the lv on his own in skill up pts) and wanted to go to gustav and close light. Yeah thats right, the ninja and I(thf) had to make fusion. None of us wanted to pt there, but the drk just insisted and refused to PT if we didnt go there.

So, the ninja mainhands 1h sword, and I sub mnk and use H2H (E skill for thf) and we do red lotus -> raging fists -> spinning slash. This was before sushi existed, and we were missing like crazy. Since I feel like being generous, I think we had a ~33% acc rate eyeballed with double madrigal. All of the regular attack damage was crap as well. But oh, the 1k dmg spinning slash+light renkei once every 3-5 minutes was so worth it /sarcasm off. If I recall correctly, I think the drk missed 6 times in a row, and he had tons more acc than the ninja or myself before even counting the weapon skill numbers into question, of which he had an A- weapon, ninja C or so (i forget what they have in sword) and myself an E rank. Thus, we were missing much worse than the drk who was already whiffing like crazy.

Anyway, besides the slow kills, we had quite a few deaths as well. The rdm couldnt land enfeebles, even with ele staves and max enfeeble gear, of which, no silence hurt the most.
I think we were making ~1.5k an hour not counting the deaths, for a pt that normally made 5-6k average.

              Well... FOREVER! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! lol

              I got another story:

Today I was in the dunes lvling my THF when I get an invite from a lvl10 MNK (Im lvl11) and he tells me he has TWO PL's with his PT...

So I'm like "Thank you Jezus!", and I run over and join up with them near the Konschat Highland zone... I prepared to lvl grind really fast since we would be able to take on IT gobs...

The exp was good for awhile until one of our PL's bailed... then all hell broke loose

Next thing I know the other PL bails, so we try and fight on our own... but it seems that my PT had no idea what they were doing...

So 3 ppl leave saying they "have to go" and the PT leader tries to look for more ppl

Now normally after that you would leave since the PT is obviously done for... but I chose to stick with the leader (curse my kind heart! ), so now its me, the leader, and the lvl11 BRD/WHTM...

So after a few minutes he finds a lvl12 THF, who then starts demanding that the leader make her the leader instead, saying that she can find a healer faster than him

Naturally this leads to conflict (I tried to be the peacemaker) and next thing you know the leader disbands the PT, saying that hes too low lvl anyway

In all, I gained 500exp (didnt gain any lvls) after an hour of PTing... which sucks...

Thats the dunes for ya! lol

                I think this comment wins:
Sometimes you gotta get your face busted in by a smelly giant fish to learn.
Anyway... I've had a lot of bad parties...having 5 jobs at AF level (and well beyond for a couple) obviously means a lot of exping. Which means a lot of bad parties. Don't get me wrong, I like exping just about everything, but you get some really bad parties sometimes too...

I blacklist people for only a few reasons. Either very annoying and/or offensive spam or extreme stupidity. I've never had to blacklist anybody for another reason. My blacklist is rather short - I'll excuse silly mistakes by new players, or even ones that cause party wipes. I'll list the few that got the "extreme stupidity" blacklist. I'd like to point out that I do egg some of these people on. I've been a real asshole to a few people. I'd feel bad about it, but they were just so terrible. Plus I get a laugh when I look back at my screenshots.

First up is a RNG. He was part of this rather infamous group on my server. Well known for their lack of skill and unwillingness to learn, despite many of them being level 75. This one was/is in an HNM linkshell. You'd assume he had a grasp on his job, ranger, and how to pull.

                You'd be wrong.

So, we were in sky, fighting aura weapons (those annoying RDM ones). As far as I could tell, his pulling was random at best. He'd ignore weapons, which aggro to magic, that were near myself and the other mages and pull weapons that were no threat to us. We'd let him know a weapon had spawned near us, but no luck. We had a bard, so no luck on us standing right next to the melees either (pre-"nerf" RNG, by the way). Not that we'd want to. Getting smacked with whirl of rage over and over while getting melee songs isn't too fun.

We decided to try a "roaming" camp. We weren't really killing fast enough to pull this off, but what the hell, right? This was even more fun, because now all the mages were dancing around trying to avoid aggro and the bard was trying to stick songs on us and the melees. Turns out we didn't so much "roam" as we did "camp in the middle of all the weapons".

At this point, the mages were pulling as much as the RNG, because we kept getting aggroed. We had one particularly nasty set of links and we were near death when the RNG calls for help when the weapon is at under 5% HP. Earlier in the week he had called for help on genbu when it was at 1% HP. You'd think he'd have learned his lesson. The nearest possible group is 5+ minutes away and wouldn't even see the called for help monster on radar, let alone be able to jump in to help.

When I asked him about his reasoning behind the call for help, he told me it was an accident. I couldn't help but ask him about the accident at genbu. He didn't like that at all. We were already at each other's throats, so to speak, and my comment about him being accident prone didn't help.

Anyway. Long story short, he told me I "sux" and other kind words. I, in turn, decided to test out my theory on how long a RNG/NIN with no sense of hate control or how to pull can live without somebody healing him. Turns out it was 20 minutes. He held back once he got down to 75%HP.

He died. He sweared at me more. I apologized and said it was an accident, like him calling for help on genbu and exp monsters, and that I just wasn't very observant of my party member's HP/MP like he wasn't when pulling. I raised him (I pitied him) and party broke. Later he saw me in jeuno and emoted pissing on my head. He earned my first blacklist due to extreme stupidity.

Second one was in sky as well, from a SAM that was in an HNM linkshell. Level 75s vs decorative weapons. It was a so-so party... for about 30 minutes. Then the PLD started disconnecting right after the puller said he was pulling. The PLD disappears and the DRK and SAM try to tank, but I quickly run out of MP (I was already low) and we decide to sleep it.

They announce that they were going to sleep it (a few times) then the RDM casts sleep on it. Two seconds later...the SAM whacks it with her great katana while the DRK disengages. Lag, I figure. The RDM casts sleepga on it. SAM hits it again. The RDM and I are both telling her to disengage and she complies. The RDM then sleep II's it.

She tells me that she knew to disengage, and didn't need us reminding her. To that I replied "You woke it up twice.". She claimed it was only once, but the chat log and animations said otherwise. So did the fact that they had to sleep it three times. I couldn't help it and said a smart-ass comment... "I was just making sure you knew hitting slept monsters woke them up." The SAM commented on being 75 and knowing that already. The BLM and RDM decide to nuke > sleep it while I was still getting MP. We rest up, I use my MP to cure everybody up.

Thunder IV hits the weapon, followed by sleep a second or two later. Thunderga III...sleepga. It was working out fairly well. Of course the BLM was drained of MP, but we could sleep it again. At this point it wasn't really an option to have the SAM or DRK tank, since the BLM had so much hate. BLM got a bit more MP and nuked it again. RDM slept it again. 10% HP, almost there!

SAM pulls out her great katana and wakes it up, followed by a tachi:kasha. 7%HP gone! But BLM still has hate. The weapon smacks the BLM once, then uses smite of rage on him before I could even stand. Boom. Dead BLM. SAM and DRK chip away the rest of it's HP in a few seconds.

Yet again, I couldn't help but comment on this. I say in party chat: "Remember what I said about hitting it waking it up? I thought you knew." The RDM joins me with a "There was a reason we were sleeping it, you know."

She replied: "oh no really jenica can u explain to me , im a noob from valkurm dunes so wat happens jenica pls explain" (I'd like to point out that she wasn't typing like that to be a smart-ass, that's how she typed all the time.)

Rest of the chat conversation, it's a fun read, but totally not important.

Raise III'd the BLM, we waited a bit for the PLD to come back, then escaped and warped out.

I have a few more, but I didn't take screenshots of these, so they'll be much shorter...and they were true sucky parties, not just one damage dealer pulling us down a bit.

PLD/WAR that didn't provoke at level 48 while talking in party chat about how high he was. Everybody was tanking, party didn't last more than 20 minutes (no other tanks around to replace him). (Yeah, still one bad person pulling us down, but a bad tank is a lot more painful than a bad melee.)

New PLD/WAR using great sword and berserk. And not wanting to tank. Happened about a day after the previous party with the crappy PLD... His gear was largely hit and miss too. Low level armor, low level great sword, DEX/accuracy gear...sniper ring (-10 DEF!), didn't eat food of any sort... That party didn't last long either.

Level 50, garliage basement. I'm on BLM, my friend is on MNK, I put together a cookie cutter party. PLD DRK MNK WHM BLM RDM. Subjobs are cookie cutter as well, so all checks out so far. I tell them we're going to garliage and we'll meet there. The PLD and DRK take their sweet time getting there...but it wasn't too bad.

We get there and I notice the PLD's gear is a bit out of date... I see him in full eisen/kampf. I decide to do a little /check... Eisen gear, NQ level 14 VIT ring, bastokian ring, shell earrings, some random silly neckpiece (fang or spike). I'm already looking at my options for a new tank (which were none). I don't kick him right then...some EXP is better than none.

I ask the DRK to pull and he says he can't, he doesn't have a ranged weapon or ammo. *sigh* I ask him to pull with poison or something, he says he doesn't want to. So...it's MNK pulling with chi-blast! (I hate it when people make me do that on my MNK.) My friend pulls, we kill. Slowly. Very slowly.

The first things I notice are: The PLD and DRK didn't use any food, and the MNK is getting TP about twice as fast as the DRK, at least. I fight the little voice inside my head that says that I shouldn't check the DRK and I do it anyway. He's wearing loads of +racc gear, including the rings that lower your accuracy. Yet, he has no ranged weapon.

-Accuracy. +Ranged Accuracy. No ranged weapon. My head hurts.

I look around, trying to see if I can now replace both the DRK and the PLD. I couldn't, so I just warp them out with no warning. In retrospect, I should have booted them and casted escape. I'm sure they didn't have silent oils.

                Two more!

I got a random invite as my SMN (way back when I was leveling it) for an onzozo party on cats (way back when onzozo cats were popular...). It took forever to find a tank, but the leader found us a galka PLD the second they even tought about possibly putting seek on. The party fully formed now, we head out of jeuno and choco our way through the zones. I get to just outside of onzozo when I notice that the PLD had chocoed his way to rolanberry.

A few others notice this too and we ask what's happening. He doesn't reply at first, so we ask again a few minutes later. He replies saying that his RNG friend got a new bow, and it shoots faster than dia. (The bow from that NM in quicksands.) "Nifty," I think, "but can't your RNG friend show you this some time when you're not exping?"

We keep trying to get him to hurry up and head out to onzozo...he stays in rolanberry. Apparently that bow is cooler than we all thought. He's absolutely enthralled by it. He stays in rolanberry with his RNG friend for 45 minutes, the whole time we're searching for a PLD to replace him with. With no luck, of course. Then he finally tells us that he has to go and disbands. The RDM goes as well, and then the party is pretty much dead.
                Hours spent seeking: 2.
Time in group trying to find PLD before we set out from jeuno: 1 hour.
Time spent waiting outside of onzozo: 45 minutes
                Exp gained: 0!

The last bad party I can think of offhand was as my MNK at level 59. The party leader insisted on going to onzozo at level 59-60 with no bard. (I don't like to go there at all...but if I have to, I'd prefer level 62+.) I take off my brown belt, shove on the life belt, and eat some sushi (first time I had -ever- done that) and I could barely hit the damn things, and when I did, it was for next to no damage.

We kept going for 30 minutes and killed three torama. We couldn't even get chain 2, then the leader said he had to go and left. The rest of us disbanded...I don't think any of us wanted to exp any more that day.

Edit: ...This is the longest post I've ever made. Jeez... I think I got a bit too carried away with the rambling.

Re: The Worst PT Contest! *sign up today*

I have two stories to tell of the disease that is the dunes.

First would be the time I was in a party with not one, not two, but three power levelers. Yes! 3 higher level players standing beside us tossing out cures and keeping an eye on us.

...Yet we still had people dying regularly and longer downtime between fights than that of an average dunes party without PLers. All 3 were actively there, talking, moving around, quick to raise, etc. and we had no lack of enemies to pull, so needless to say, I was thoroughly confused.

                  ----------------------------------------

Story 2 takes place long long ago. Back when the PC NA release was still fairly new. I was out in the dunes leveling my SMN when I found an invite to a party. The party was full, the leader being a WHM/RDM. I checked everyone's search comments and saw that the NIN/WAR in the party was a Japanese player. We gathered together and went out west to the goblin camps. We were in the mid-upper teens in levels.

We started fighting and seem to be doing ok. I took out Carbuncle (only avatar I had at the time, remember this is early NA release) to attack the goblin and try to help toss out some support cures. The leader was a WHM though, so I thought I'd be ok not full out healing.

We fell our first goblin and the Japanese player begins to cast lots on the drops. Remember when people, especially the Japanese players, used to do this? The leader got mad and said in party chat "No lotting". No translator or anything of that sort. I start to cast lot on the items so they are fairly distributed and eventually the others follow suit. We then went on to pull the next goblin. The fight goes ok, but I notice that I seem to be curing a lot more than the WHM.

In any case, the Japanese player again lots the items in the pool. The WHM tells him again in English to stop lotting the items and then suddenly the NIN is gone from the party. He hadn't disconnected though. He was still standing in front of us and puts his flag up. The leader had apparently booted him. I tried to explain to the leader that a lot of Japanese players were accustomed to lotting the treasury instead of letting it auto distribute. The leader turns on me for lotting that first time with the NIN and then booting me as well.

Meanwhile the NIN is still standing next to us with his flag up, most likely confused as to what is going on. I put my flag up as well and take note of the lack of anyone else in the zone seeking our range. The party would either have to break or reinvite us. I guess some people in the party were able to talk to the leader and we were invited back in. First thing the leader said again was "No lotting". I did a scan of some of the translator terms and thankfully found the {Cast lots} message, so I just said in chat {Cast lots} = {/no}, to which the Japanese player made an acknowledgement.

So we continued fighting goblins, now without issue as items were auto distributed. I took note though that as soon as any goblin items dropped, the leader lotted them I chose not to say anything about it however.

After a few fights, the WHM levels up and learned Curaga...yeah, this part of the story isn't gonna be pretty.

We start fighting the next goblin and its going well when it choses to do Bomb Toss (ouch). The WHM immediately starts casting Curaga on the melees. Health sparkles down upon the party as the goblin immediately bolts for the WHM and starts to pummel him. Thankfully the goblin was low on health at the time, so the melees were able to finish it off before anyone died. The leader made us wait on him resting to full before we could pull again.

When ready, we started in on another goblin. I noticed again that I was doing a hefty amount of cures on the party compared to the WHM when another Bomb Toss occured. The WHM immediately started another Curaga, but this time the goblin had a lot more health when he ran over to say 'Hi' to the healer. The WHM went down, but we were able to finish it off. A nearby player with Raise got to the leader and we waited for weakness.

Exp had slowed down quite a bit at this point with the leader making us constantly rest to full after every fight now. I was tempted to comment on the use of curaga, but figured the close call and the following death were enough that the WHM would have some sense about it now.

Weakness wore off and we started on another goblin...this fight went much like the second with the WHM almost dying before the goblin is finished. A few more fights follow this suit along with another death by the WHM (and a raise from someone soloing weapon skillups). Obviously he wasn't learning, so I tried to make a polite comment about the hate Curaga generates. The WHM just snapped that the tank and melees just weren't doing a good job and that I wasn't either as a support healer. Miffed, I told him flat out that using Curaga at this level range during battle instead of after was just asking for death and the equivallent of a mini-Benediction and that the downtime between fights because they chose to keep using it was making us less efficient. The WHM made some comments about how it didn't matter anyways since WHM was just a sub for his RDM and that he didn't care much about the job or healing in the first place.

The WHM promptly booted me from the party but I had no interest at this point in trying to get back in. I put my flag back up and began walking back to Selbina. I was still the only one seeking in the range at the time, so their group disbanded not long after. The next day, I was invited to a party by another person, but that WHM was in their group. I chose to disband and politely tell the leader that I did not wish to party with that player.

Re: The Worst PT Contest! *sign up today*

So one day, out of sheer boredom and frustration with the game, I deleveled my WHM on my taru from level 45 to level 11. I was going to do it with my other jobs as well but changed my mind. Grabbing my Doublet outfit, my jewelry and some tasty Swt. Rice Cakes, I waddled out to the dunes for some good old newbie fun and excitement. As soon as I stepped foot on the sandy ground of Valkurm Dunes, I remembered I really hated the glare that always gave me a headache. I set my home point, I think Bastok owned the dunes on that day, and sat down on the hot sand to begin typing up my search comment. Before I have my exp listed and hadn't even put up my flag yet, I get an invite. I accepted. That blind invite was a blessing in disguise even though only myself and one other had subjobs. 6 and a half levels in 5 hours of partying then I had to go.

                      Day 2 In the Dunes

I was still happy with the progress I made my first day back in the dunes so decided to see if my luck would hold up. The first parties I got were alright, a level or two gained slowly but nice people with good attitudes. Made friends with a couple of the new players.

Then I get a group to do pugs. We head over to Siren Sands and I check the list of people I'll be partying with. NIN tank... I'm an odd player, as a healer, my first tank choice is PLD, then NIN, then MNK/WAR, then WAR. And PLDs do amazing against Pugs. On the one hand, I'm wishing we had a PLD, on the other, I figure I'll give the NIN a chance since I have seen some fine NINs against pugs in the past.

We have a COR puller and he heads out for our first Pug. My filters are set so I can see what the Party Members use and the damage the mob does. Everything else is filtered out so I can do my job as a healer. Puller found a nice VT for us to start out on and I'm watching my chat log. No sign of Utsusemi yet from our NIN/WAR. Having never played the job, I'm figuring the tank is waiting until the puller is closer.

Our Tank provokes the Pug and I toss a cure out on our puller. Still no sign of the Tank using Utsusemi and he is using up a large portion of my MP and not holding hate very well. By the end of the fight, I had used up all my MP (which was a lot since I was a Taru WHM/SMN). I asked why he didn't use Utsusemi but got no answer until the third time I asked about it. He didn't have it. I do a quick /sea all of our level range but there was no sign of a better tank anywhere. A quick conversation with the leader and I'm reassured that as soon as a tank is available, the Utsusemi-less NIN is history. Thankfully he eventually left and we got a better tank so I could leave the dunes that day.

I was really bored that day and very tempted to quit. The SMN mini-battles were costing me a fortune and nothing I tried would work to kill them, I was frustrated with the string of bad parties in the 40s and tired of seeing gimps/bad players leveling faster then I was because of the effort I put in to have at least decent gear. Setting my HP in Norg and deleveling one of my jobs was actually fun and helped me decide to stick with the game.

I recommend it as therapy to anyone feeling the frustrations I felt.

To each his own, I guess.

Whenever I get frustrated with this game, I just don't play it for awhile and come back to it some other time.

                              Another story from me

So I get up around 6:00AM (I got up early so I could start studying for my finals tomorrow )

Anyways, I got sick of studying and decided to take a break playing FFXI

So I'm in the dunes with my lvl11 THF/lvl5 WAR and I'm looking for a PT. After an hour (yes that's right... an hour!) I finally get an invite from a lvl13 BLKM (no subjob), at the moment it was just me and him in the PT.

Pretty soon he got a lvl11 MNK, lvl13 BLU... and two lvl16's (one of them was a SAM)!

We told him that you cant invite someone who 3 lvl's higher than you because it results in bad exp and he said "Oh! Okay!" and then went and kicked the two lvl16 players

After another 20 minutes we told him to invite a healer (which he kept replying with "Oh!Okay")... thats when he invited another person... who turned out to be the lvl16 SAM (yeah, the same one from before!)!

The second he did this the lvl11 MNK bailed and the lvl16 SAM left too (not after explaining to the BLKM the lvl gap thing again!)

I tried to be nice and stay (he was a newb, it wasn't his fault he didn't know what he was doing ), but then he invited another person... who was lvl19

At that second I left and started back to the Konschat Highland zone. As it turned out, the lvl11 MNK from before gave me a tell saying he got an invite from a PT and asked if I wanted to join, which I did...

So I ended up in an awesome PT (the leader was an experienced player and she was really nice )

So I guess sometimes really bad PT's can lead to really good ones

Re: The Worst PT Contest! *sign up today*

I joined a PT the other day to level PLD at 31-32, PT leader was 34 BLU, Whm was 33, and other members were 32.
So I arrive in khazam and head to Yhoator, SLow exp and bad exp spots. I've come to expect this from lazy People. But im getting a little exp so im like whatever. The drg and I start to chat as we have PT'ed before.

As we pull I ask the BLU to not spam his spells so much, So that I could get hate and try to hold it. He was 2 levels higher so my hat eholding wasnt that great. While the monster was near 30-40% HP he goes to get another. Im like WTF?, The DRG is like dude where you goin?

I chuck an au-lait and reraise earing, This idiot comes back with not one, but two gobs.
I sigh knowing that im gonna die. SO i aggro all 3 and two hour and get beat up.
The others make it to the zone and live of course I died. Im like okay from now on Ill pull AND tank. The Blu goes no i'll pull but lets go somehwere with less aggro like garliage. Im lik e sheesh.

First bat we fight I die, As a PLD I expect to die sometimes but not because of some idiot.
I tell him these bats hurt me to much as level 31. The whm suggests we leave and go somewhere else...

Our Briliiant leader says .. THERE IS NO WHERE ELSE! He goes i've been playing since NA release. WHM and DRG go yeah well us to. I try to keep quit but they notice my rank and JP macroes. SO I tell them yeah i've been playing since beggining and there are other places.

The Blu says like where, I said Davoi, or Bedo. Easy levelling lots of monsters and NO OTHER PT's. Blu says whatever, and I say okay but if i die again Im leaving and will form my own.
Of course I die this time to an evil weapon since we went outside now. I left the PT, Everyone in the PT left and came with me to Davoi ^^. I grabbed a PUP and went from 31-33.5 in 3 hours chaining orcs.
