Hmm the problem we found with something like this is that certain people are only on certain days when you have a *lot* of people around, we usually average 12+ a night, which makes it rough for people to RP with say their IC wife if the days they're on aren't RP days.

We in no way discouraged RP on off-days. Our main RP days put emphasis on our main "storyline," as it were, and usually we had someone use a handy program to copy the chat logs. They'd then post those logs on our forums so nobody would miss any major developments.

Off-days were used for character development, random events, etc. Posting logs was appreciated but not required.

The result was people could RP when they wanted. If you were a hardcore RP'er you could RP every day. If you only wanted to show up a couple times a week and participate in an on-going storyline, that was also available, and you didn't have to worry about the storyline getting ahead of you due to RP's going on when you're not around.

While I think it might be fun for a while... I honestly don't think I could stand trying to RP all the time. I used to imm on a roleplaying enforced mud (nerd points +5 there) and I'd switch to my immortal character because I'd rather deal with random tells for help or technical questions than watch the same old RP over and over again. ><

I ran a MUD for several years, and while it wasn't enforced RP, player killing was only allowed if it feel within RP (ie. player alignment differences, storyline, race wars, etc). We attemted to give bonuses if they actually did more in character stuff, but that would almost universally result in fearless knights and damsels in distress that would degenerate into a mess of people cybering.

I do not. The concept is neat in practice, but I'm not creative or imaginative enough, and taking part in it would make me go insane anyway. I want the freedom to be able to talk about anything *I* (that's me, the player behind the character, not the character) want to, and not have to plug in an <OOC> in front of everything I say.

That being said, Lakshmi has one major RP LS that I know about, CantaPerMe.

I was really surprised how few ppl RP on my server

I actually planned to RP when I first planned to buy the game (I had a character name and backstory already figured out ;p )

But when I started to actually play, I was disappointed to find that almost nobody else did (or at least very few), so I ended up acting normally like everyone else ;p

If I had the opurtunity I would RP, I mean the whole point of a MMORPG is to be someone else

Until then, Im cool with just being me :D

My main linkshell at this point is a tiny RPLS with both an in-character and out-of-character level that also doubles as a small-scale social linkshell on the OOC side. Most often, RP over the shell is marked out with IC: tags. It helps that a friend and I successfully joined at the same time and another good friend of ours (whose server we intentionally went to) was also quite interested in RP. Our fourth primary member is someone we met on another social linkshell who found out about our RP by accident and quite nicely dove in.

We mostly RP in /say, using /p only when necessary (if we're moving too much, if people tell us to shut up [which is rare on Midgard], etc.). This has actually led to interesting spontaneous additions to our RP on occasion. All in all, I'd call Midgard more RP-friendly than average just to judge by other replies here.

We're also not the only RPLS around on Midgard. There's another, though I forget its name -- keeping track of one confusing continuity and relationship map is quite enough for me, thank you. -- Pteryx

But honestly, its not that big a deal, once I started getting into the game I realized that the discussion between players is more like a chat room than a RP...

I think Ill RP when I get into the endgame (like anyone is going to give grief to a lvl 75 player ;p )

I fully intended on RPing as soon as the game was released in North America. I tried to get a FFXI RP community running (I had a nice little community of about 10 people), but college wasn't going so well, so I gave up on the project to dedicate myself to school. But I had a character story already planned out.

It is hard to find RP in this game, isn't it? Everyone's so silent in the cities, so you can't really pinpoint out, "hey, that guy's RPing!" Unless it's a misstell. On top of that, the game isn't designed to be RP-friendly, so it's tough overall to find RPers.

I've been thinking about trying to start up a FFXI RP community again, to help players seeking RP over the servers to find RP, but there's a few issues in creating a community that I'm not so sure I can fufill by myself, so I'm hesitant to start one or get too excited about it.

Either way, I really enjoy the story I designed for Cerevinan, so I hope I get a chance to RP it out someday. I just heard yesterday about a RPLS on my server, so I hope I can get involved with them.

I've tried to start up two roleplaying linkshells on Siren server with no luck. I know that there's a character on there named Shippuu who's trying to start up another RP LS, should anyone from Siren be reading this and be interested in it.

I met a lot of resistance trying to get my RP LSes started up there since it seems like people on this game have no concept of RP. I come from years of D&D, Earthdawn, Star Wars tabletop, PBEMs, and so forth...so when I came to FF XI since it's a roleplaying game (that's what the RPG in MMORPG stands for...) I expected there to be a lot more roleplayers on there. Most of my friends know how to RP and enjoy it. I might try starting up another RP LS if Shippuu's LS doesn't take off, but right now I'm not really inclined to since I busted my arse with the last two I made, and both of them wound up dead.

I love to RP, and I really think it adds a totally new dimension to the game if you do it. People don't know what they're missing out on. It takes a lot of imagination, and it's a lot of fun.

I'm a member of an RP LS on Leviathan: The Lost Boys, however, I'm not sure about our current state of recruitment is, apart from the fact its 18+ only.

According to your profile you're from Phoenix server. I was involved with a RPLS when I played there about a year ago. The LS was called The Light's Templar, if you're interested.

When I start playing (which will be in a few hours after buying the game =P) I'll probably roleplay. I've roleplayed on two other online games and it made it even more fun.

If no one else around me gets I'm roleplaying though I'll stop <_<
