if you truly think this.... MMOs are not for you , about 90% of all MMos have auto attack, and are basicly just like FFXI gameplay wise

Well, as has already been pointed out, the fact of the matter is that this game is old. Might as well be ancient as far as games are concerned. If he wants an updated, next gen mmorpg then he needs to wait for one to come out. Since it hasn't yet as far as I know. It's true that WoW may be more to his liking. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, while not an mmorpg, I've heard that the game is so expansive and immersive that it actually feels like one. It's next gen and the graphics are obviously superior. He might want to take a stab at that, or other types of game, because next-gen mmorpgs are still in development and I don't think we'll see any for a while.

              Laughing now :p

              Anyway...

#1 Character customization is seriously lacking, but that's not a major.

No, that's not a major at all, you have 5 races, each has around 15 hairstyles (someone check for me, im lazy), so thats 5 x 15 = 75, you have 75 different looks, i dont know what more you wanted... maybe this is your kind of game: http://psx.gamezone.com/gamesell/p19164.htm

And then you have gloves, hats, coats, boots and trousers, dozens to choose from, i honestly dont see how people think theres not enough customization...

#2 These graphics are horrible! Oh my god, my poor eyes. This looks like a PS1 game, not even close to next-gen.

This is the most beautiful game i have ever layed eyes upon. Sure, resolution and texture wise the game could have been a bit better, but no one, and i repeat, _no one_ will ever make a mmorpg this beautiful (unless they make a sequel), the artwork is stunning, the zones are too gorgeous, most variety in effects ive ever seen, look at the most famous, best game ever in the world:

Didnt take much for it to rock.

The artwork and concepts are so great even other games are stealing their ideas:

              http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/gen...hlight=lawsuit

              Anyone remember that thread? ^^

#3 I can look past the graphics, if the game is good enough. But it isnt. Controls are cumbersome, your character can't even jump. And then I killed my first monster. Oh man, Auto-Attack? Who the hell thought of that. This is the laziest excuse for a combat system I have ever seen.

There's rarely any RPG where you can jump, let alone MMORPGs, no jumping, no, but i guess it would be fun, not to mention useful. And whats the problem of auto-attack? This is an RPG, no dexterity is required, and baby, play a mage job and youll see who's lazy ^^, you havent even steped into the real game, so early judgement is pretty vague.

#4 Levelling up is fairly easy when you're level 1-3. From then on, it's just plain boring. The so called "even match" monsters are actually WAY STRONGER, and the "decent challenge" monsters are managable but give you hardly any XP. Yes, this game sure is fun! Killing hundreds of rabbits and worms just so you can get to the next level.

What then, would you prefer to play as max lvl from the start? And get bored of the game in 2 days? Please... even if this game was all about lvling up, it would have alot more content than so many others out there, when you buy FFXI, youre buying a mesh of dozens of games really, because there's just so much to do, but i guess you wouldnt know, you're looking for crash bandicoot (awesome game) or counter strike, but this isnt the same genre.

This game is so huge, its so intense and so demanding, that they needed to make people pay for it, as it requires actual manpower to handle, imagine that, unless you wanted to pay 12 bucks a month for something silly like unreal tournament?

#5 Where are the weapons? I'm level 7 and still using the Onion Sword I started with. If you're rich you might be able to buy a slightly stronger weapon from the auction house, but you never really "find" weapons. Just items that do nothing, like flint stones and bat wings.

Sell those bat wings and stones, to make gil, and buy stuff at the auction house.
Theres plenty of Notorious Monsters that drop the best weanpons and armor in the game, dont expect to get them at level 7 though.

#6 I have to force myself to like this game, because I payed money for it and I can't return it. So give me some ideas on how to succeed! I must be the weakest player on the server, because everybody I see has uber weapons and armor, and trying to sell lame items for 99,999,999 gil. I want to enjoy this game, I really do. But it feels like Square-Enix have done everything they can to make it suck.

Ideas how to succeed: Play the game and try a bit harder...

thats like saying "man marrige sucks" then u reply "one way to fix that. get married"

                yeah makes no sence..

i see your bet and raise you 50 kupo nuts

also.. OP guy.. FFXI is in fact the best MMO i beleive. ive played em ALL L2 ragnarok WoW DDO EQ2. ect ect all except auto assault.. thats my next purchase..

but no matter how many games i play i always come back to ffxi

then i sit here and wish i could get my $50 each for the other games i wasted $$ on back.. but i cant.. then i cry

I am a 360 player, and that definitely isn't an issue. Selling crystals will get you enough to get low end weapons and armor in no time.

                    Re: What the hell?

what he means is u used to get ALOT more gil for your crystals.. for example on my server fire crystals were 6-7k a stack on average and as of this moment right now there 900-1100g a stack

thats a MAJOR downgrade in price

I find that the graphics are great on the 360 version with my 27 inch HDTV. Basically the game opens up more at lvls 10,30,50,65 and then lvl 75 is when it gets fun. Just keep playing and you might see how fun it gets when you get to start partying with other people.

                        Re: What the hell?

NEVER buy weapons at the AH in the beginning, especially when your level 1. RUN around your entire city, look on your map for vendors that sell goods. When your nation is in first place you usually have goods in stock that are slightly better than your "onion sword" Onion sword sounds like you started with a warrior type job, in Windurst. So I'm going to point out that you can get weapons on the dock in windurst port. Also don't scrap your character. You can always change jobs at your mog house if you think that leveling a newb tarutaru from windurst is too hard. It might be because tarutaru's are not BUILT to fight as a level 1 newb with no uber gear, no food, and a adventurer's coupon. It's difficult in the beginning but don't give up.

A lot of people have talked about the game's graphics and game play and I think these are both wonderful. The thing that they haven't mintioned though is the one thing that realy keeps me coming back and thats the people. I think that what makes FFXI so good is that it is a real community some times I sit and mule just so I can watch whats going on around the AH. If it weren't for people helping me out when I first started I would have quit after one night.

haha. actually I started again as a Hume warrior, and I'm quite enjoying it. Bastok seems to be a more interesting place than san d'oria, AND, I just found out about getting Signet cast and getting crystals! yay, sell sell sell! I had to laugh when I went too far into the mines and got killed in one hit by a giant scary monster. I admit, the graphics aren't bad.. it's just that I've been playing TES4: Oblivion for the past 2 weeks, and that's kinda what I've been comparing it to (bad idea).

Also, communicating with people is a nightmare on the xbox360, can't wait til my new keyboard arrives.

Haha. I was partying with a guy in Valkurm Dunes the other day. He was all like, "How are you all talking so fast!?" Sucks that the Xbox has those sorts of problems. :s

As for the crystals, they can make you a pretty penny starting out. 4k Fire Crystals are nice in the AH...(Remember, though, Crystal prices differ for each Nation's Auction House. So, sometimes it's a good idea to save, say, Earth Crystals, which sell for crap, and sell them when you're in a nation that they go for more in.)
