  • New jobs, What can they wear?

    Patch DLed I am sure Pebbles Site will have a more comprihesive list but heres a small rundown:

    BLU (JOB 16): Crimson, Homam, Nashira, Errant, Dusk, SH, Vermy NO RIDILL OR JOY-TOY!
    COR (JOB 17): Crimson, Dusk, SH
    PUP (JOB 18): No old rare/ex sets. Vermy, Errant

    All 3 jobs can wear Bahamuts Hose.

    BLU can wear pretty much what a RDM can, and then a little more. COR gets mostly light armors (none of the heavy stuff), pretty much a mix of what RNG and BRD can wear. PUP is all about light armor. Robes, linen, Tunics.

    No new jobs get Zenith, Shura, Keoing, Shinra (sky god set) or Adaman.

    EDIT: My POLUtil+ keeps crashing now while POL is on, so cant go any farther. Sorry.

    thanks Gobo! omg that Yigit set looks even more godly now.

    so with the 3 jobs wearing mostly medium-light level armors I guess we can eliminate any of them being tank jobs :|

    interesting, Russta "just" found out (might be wrong though because i'm readin conflicting reports):
    - No new jobs get God set (except BLU getting Genbu's Shield)
    - No new job gets Zenith, no new jobs get Hecatomb but BLU and COR can wear Adaman, Koenig and Crimson. Also, BLU can wear both Homan and Nashira gear. Take the stuff about abjuration gear with a pinch of salt because I haven't verified it myself.
    - Only Corsair gets to use Joyeuse.

    - No new jobs got access to Byrnie and Haubergeon.
    - PUP is very mage heavy on equipment (Rostrums, Errant etc) and doesn't get Destroyers.

        *very* concerned with the extreme lack of puppetmaster armor. I understand that they're not exactly supposed to be walking tanks, but on that same token, square seems to expect them to be in melee combat most of the time, and thier armor choices are on par with, if not worse then, white mages...

          I don't think any new job can wear Koenig. I could double check though. BLU and COR definitely do get Crimson, though, I noticed that.

          I'm a bit surprised that they would break the pattern that every job gets exactly one of homam, nashira and kirin's osode (in addition to one or more abj sets) - but maybe they think the new sets like Yigit will fill that gap, or maybe they intend to introduce JSE or other high-level gear in the coming months.

          BLU and COR can wear scorpion harness, cardinal and narasimha's vest, amemet mantle, warwolf belt and rutter sabatons, among others. So they both do have a decent amount of melee supporting equipment if they want it (although no hauby, byrnie). Overall I get the impression that BLU is intended to be more offensive than RDM (getting falchion type swords, reportedly A or A- sword skill, powerful nukes like 1000 needles, etc.), and therefore quite possibly, less survivable.

          BLU can use (most of) both groups of curved swords (the wide-bladed falchion group and the skinny sapara group) as well as some straight swords - centurion, gladiator, xiphos, etc. COR can't use falchions (IIRC) but can use rapiers including Joyeuse, some of the regular swords, as well as knife and kukri type daggers, and of course, most guns. Neither can use knightswords or bastard swords. BLU can't use any daggers that I could see, which means they won't be using Energy Drain/Steal the way RDMs can. They also can't use Joyeuse; I couldn't find anyone with Seiryu's Sword. BLU can use Rune Bow and Rune Arrow, but no normal bows/arrows, which suggests that they're not intended to shoot anything with them (i.e. probably 0 archery skill).

          BLU has terrible shield selection aside from Genbu's (basically like BLM's!) - and who knows if they will get any shield skill to go with it. COR can't use any shields at all. Since both of them can only use 1h weapons, /NIN is starting to look good for both of them (although it still needs to be weighed against other options, I think it is likely to be the standard sub for 20+ COR, at least initially. No MP, 1 handed weapons and no shields, and I think they can offhand archer's knife to help their guns. Plus, with guns, utsusemi and no need to rest MP, they'd be a pretty decent puller, which is always an asset when LFP.)

          BLU can wear scale, leather, harnesses and some cloth (but not seers). COR can't wear scale but can wear leather, harnesses and the noct set. Neither can wear chain or plate type armors, or gis.

          I'm concerned about PUP too. Unless they stay on the back lines in a party and only send the automaton in to attack, they're going to be in a lot of danger from weapons or other monsters with physical AoE. If they stay in back, is the automaton really going to contribute enough by itself to make them a worthwhile addition to a party? Or is the mage gear a hint that they should stay back *and sub whm* to provide some support healing in addition to whatever the automaton is doing? (But someone claimed from the fan festival video that PUP has 0 MP, so their support healing will be little better than a BRD's. They can probably spend more time resting, as well as wearing seer's, but still...) Their weak armor choices make it seem likely that they will need the automaton to tank for them when soloing after the very early levels, which in turn implies a dependence on automaton oil. So they may not be such a hot solo job after all, depending on how difficult/expensive it is to get automaton oil.

          Well, we'll know more in a week.

                No need for argument, Walahra Turban (Head) outbeats probably every other thing from the new patch (only other arguable single piece of gear is Algol).
                Haste+5% from a HEADPIECE? A replacement for end-game perfect status Maat's Cap OK!

                  If its the piece I remember the desription here isn't quite right. Its actually only Haste+5% during Assault missions. Other similar pieces have bonuses that only apply during Assault or during Besieged.

                  Edit : Actually I may be wrong, it looks like the Storm set is for Assault.

                      Afraid you're wrong Kaleen, although I noticed there were many of those "Assault only" equipment such as "Garrison only", Walahra Turban is not restricted to such things; making it possibly one of the best piece of equipment for many various jobs. Even HP/MP+30 might make it useful for Galkan PLD tankers or such!

                      By the way, did anyone else notice the Yigit set and Algol extremely useful and powerful?

                            May be it just me but I actually think PUP could be our new tank job. They will be tanking through the puppet. Remember those skills that could overload the automaton. I see skill +enmity to automaton and make it provoke, we also see +vit/defense skill and skill that make the automaton cast cure.

                            Now if you combine those skills doesn't that make a paladin robot? It could probably never be able to hold hate like a player PLD but people will adapt, just like they adapted to ninja tanking.

                            By looking at the puppet ability, I think puppetmaster could be any role depends on the customization of his puppet. Could be a very interesting job.

                              yep pup is my main focus for this new expansion and i thought it was gonna be a tank for the most part when i heard of the job. though i thought we would be able to get differnt automatons rather then just upgrading the current one. either way im happy. though they need to fix the name of this quest lol http://ffxi.somepage.com/questdb/236 figure that name would be geared toward pup in some sorta way now at least. ^^
