    Re: VanaGuide Signature

Yes, I agree with Macht. I've stated else where that this is a bit concerning. I dont doubt your intentions or judge your character in anyway but as a user, just telling someone to sniff packets wont cut it. I asure you 99% of the people on this board and that play ffxi probably dont know how to sniff packets or even know what you are talking about. Also, saying that some 3rd party check your program and such doesnt really say much either. When dealing with other peoples systems, even though the masses probably dont know any better, you need to be sensitive to things like these. I am also strict with what runs on my computer. I believe I only have 23 processes running at any given time on my desktop at home. If I see anything over 25 I raise a brow. I know whats there and what shouldnt. What makes people think that you wont turn off your website and disappear? I personally dont think that since you did put lots of work into your site, but really, what comfort does that give a user?

Again, i'm not accusing you of anything wrong besides the lack of credibilty and responsibilty when it comes to your app.

Edit: please explain what was found in omniblast's post.

ok dug through the BG thread (ugh...), Xtek claims it's a false positive from the installer. it's on page 20 if you want to check yourself.

      Thanks Yyg!

I read through page 20 to about 26.

Here's another one, why is the whois on the domain all XXXXXXX'd out? If you used your legit name on the website, why not when you register your domain?

          Just a little note

That's right. One BILLION gil. Thank you IGE! This will be way more secure than my Swiss bank account.

A lot of people don't seem to know you can do this. If you just type in 871,510,984g into the linkshell box you can fake any amount of gil. I saw someone do this over on the blue garter forums and then some suckers derailed the thread for like a page and a half ZOMGing about gilbuying or whatever. Almost certainly fake. I think the devs know about it and are doing something to fix it.

Anyway, as nifty as this thing is I've stopped using it for now. The auto-updating is neat, but the only thing that changes frequently that anyone probably cares about is my tnl. No reason anyone should be interested in my current gil balance or zone. I think they're adding a feature that pulls information from your bazaar. Sounds kinda neat. Might try it again then.

I do wish I could paste the tnl code into my search comment. :3

            lol nice hack

I wish they'd make the Vana'diel Signature a OFFLINE Signature generator, this way I can upload my own picture to my own website periodically. This would end a lot of the "is this program legit" crap.

Agreed, that is the better method. There's no reason that it has to be sent to a centeral server unless they are planning to do more with the data then they've currently presented. That part of the idea makes me nervous and why I won't use it. If it was one that generated the image and you could control it to send it to your own space for use that I would feel safer with.
